Nok Ten petered out

Nok Ten petered out long before it arrived locally.
It was obvious that the storm began to dissipate as early as Friday evening.
Locally we had a steady light to heavy rain.  Nothing torrential.

I had emptied and cleaned my water tanks prior to Nok Ten. It took two days of rain to refill 6,000 liters.
During torrential rains these tanks are filled within 20 minutes.

This morning's TV news shows Cars in Nong Kai submerged in water

Personally I'm quite happy that the storm was nothing as predicted locally.
It was a different story in Korea.

Had some tree branches trimmed before 'the storm.'   Obviously they did a half-assed job.  The slight gusts of wind completed the job.
A few of my neighbors are doing a bit of pruning this morning.

There are still storm and rain alerts posted for the area, but I don't see it.

This afternoon's football game, Sakon FC vs Nong Kai, will most likely resemble some sort of  water sport.  Sakon players are used to playing on flooded fields.  Not only do they have the home court advantage, but also the PUDDLE advantage.  Should be great comedy.

Martin is celebrating his birthday today.  He's invited "...any of my friends in Sakon Nakhon or nearby,
You are invited to come to my shop on Sunday for a free drink and some snacks. (after 12.00 Noon).

Spent the rainy days at home recovering photo's from one of two crashed drives.
I visited Sakon Nakhon for the first time in 2002.  Watched the Wax Castle Parade that year.
Was a bit of an oddity to locals,  many mistook me for "Santa."

Ok People, knock it off with the rockets, the rain god is awake

The last few days the monsoon rains seemed a bit heavier than the usual tropical rains.
My drains almost overflowed during today's rainstorm. Definitely a first.
So far these storms have been less than half an hour.
If such rain lasts for a few hours you can expect local flooding.
Surprisingly no flood warnings have been posted for this area in some time.
I suppose you can say the Bun Bang Fai (rocket) festivals have definitely done their job

I'm not expecting a win, but I'm willing to be surprised

Topped off my wallet this morning.
Bags are packet, not leaving on a jet plane,
(but I'm thinking about the jet plane that's grounded in Munich).

We're off to see a ballgame.
Sakon FC vs Surin FC.
Surin is #5 in the division, while Sakon FC has sneaked into 8th place.
I'm not expecting a win, but I'm willing to be surprised.

It's a long ride to this ballgame and I may have to seek out some pain medication before this trip ends.

I'll be eating a schnitzel tonight!!!!

Hours of Alcohol Prohibition

We've had two days last weekend and are facing another two days this coming weekend when alcohol sales are prohibited.
Both these prohibitions are intended that voters have a clear head when heading to the polls.

Personal observation: It's not having the right effect.

Most disco's and bars where indeed shut down. A few bars where not, but had their lights dimmed.

Most drinking was done at neighborhood parties.  Last weekend there where more than the usual residential parties in my neighborhood. There are no enforced closing hours at such parties and reveling in many instances hardly slowed before sunrise.
