Facebook: Sakon Nakhon Farang (Falang)

There are 30 Sakon Nakhon related Facebook pages I follow and visit frequently, thanks to google translate.

This time I decided to open all westerner pages from 'People You May Know.'

Some people I've met, many I have not met.  Many had mutual friends.  It was interesting to quickly scroll through their posts.

Always wondered how many foreigners live in the area. Seems plenty

The Postmaster U.S.A. vs Thailand, who is the real 'MASTER of the POST'

🇺🇸 Mailed a letter to a major bank in U.S.A. It was a check for a $5 tax refund.
  •  Listed the street name, but forgot to list the direction like S.W. or N.E.
  • Over a month later the letter was returned to me "ADDRESS DOES NOT EXISTS."
  • the situation could have been resolved by referencing the bank name
🇹🇭 Discovered a photo of an envelope with my name and address in English in online messenger.
  • Man did I freak out and immediately requested to know from the sender  the "1. who, and 2. why."
  • The reply: 1, postal employee. 2. Unable to translate the English text  address.
  • I sent him a photo of the address on a  thai utility bill.  The envelope (income statement for tax purposes) was in my mailbox the next day

Why SO MANY Foreigners Living in Thailand CANNOT Speak Thai?

Recently on my birthday a monk asked me why I don't speak much Thai. I could hear what people say about me.
I answered because I don't want to hear that.

I do have a bit of a memory problem. Can't remember people's names unless I am in contact with them on a daily basis. Even then it can take months.

Most of my Thai friends have learned enough english and sign language to communicate with me.  Of course there's always online translate

Twenty years ago Thai media was publicizing the government's intent to have more english proficient Thais. That ended when Chinese tourism peaked.

Google Map is a lot more than just a map

Have been using Google Map for some years with great success.
Before I travel I use the map to find restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions, and a lot more.
In the case of hotels the map displays advertised prices.

Even at home the map has many great uses, as in this example of finding a dentist.  Of course you can search for an assortment of venues from restaurants to grocery stores, and more.

I often plot my travels on my computer and send the route information to my mobile phone

Tom Baker dies two weeks after his 71st Birthday

Used to see Tom often visiting the Pit Stop some years back.
Had not seen him in recent years.  His death may have been cancer related
