Let the holiday overindugence begin

Here's a few pictures of the gathering at Eddie's Bar after the funeral yesterday

Tomorrow I'll be heading to Tha Rae, where there will be a Christmas Mass and Christmas Play before the parade.
Christmas day I will be attending a private Christmas dinner.
The following day, Boxing day, I'll most likely visit the local beef festival.

Wish all a very enjoyable Christmas holiday

Expect cooler temperatures over the next few days. There is some question as to how cold it will get, but weather services seem to agree that it will get cooler

Eddie packs the house one last time

The Chapel was filled beyond capacity,
The pews were filled and extra chairs had to be brought out.

Been here nine years.  Attended festivals, parades, parties and funerals.
In all this time I have never seen so many westerners gathering in this city.

There is no better Eulogy than that.  Eddie had a lot of friends from many nations.
Some of his friends traveled great distances to bid their last farewell.

Until he became ill I used to visit Eddie at least three times a week.
He was a dear friend.  I'm only sorry that he did not achieve his dream:

He was waiting for the day when he would get his pension.  He had traveling plans:
"I'm gonna blow this popsicle stand."
Eddy was only months away from achieving his dream

Eddies last rites

Wednesday, 3 PM, What Pa Suthawat

Mekon River At Nakhon Phanom

Gene recently told me that he was planning a visa run in Nakhon Phanom.
I asked him to take some pictures of the river to see the water level.
I had heard it was quite low.
From the looks of things, it is low for this time of the year.  The rainy season just ended two months ago.
All the steps to the boats are now above water.
The Welcome to Thailand signs is a bit ominous.
Reports Gene: "Customs was rummaging through everything..."

...it was very hazy...

Eight o'clock isn't really eight o'clock

My friend told me sport day for 'the over the hill crowd' starts at 8 o'clock.
That start time seemed a bit unusual to me.
But at eight in the morning I cruised by the empty stadium just to make sure.

Been here long enough that I should discern Thai time.
Their clock has a starting point.. 6 on your dial.

If you are invited to dinner at 2 o'clock, add 2 to six and your dinner should be ready at 8.
I recalculated the starting time of the sport activities: Six plus eight equals 2 PM.

The government sponsored sport event is to promote physical fitness for the older generation.

Am having some plasterboard installed.
Gave the laborer an exacto knife to cut the board.
I hear the sound of the skill saw and wonder what the heck.
I went to look and saw a huge cloud of while dust.
There'd been a lot of mosquitoes there before... all gone

Wonder if they'll learn by experience

I've always been of the opinion that Thailand should install a million video cameras in trouble spots like the restive South.
