Alvin has been residing in my home office almost three years (May 2010).
He resides in a birdhouse inside his cage.
His house is filled with pillow stuffing and towels.
He regularly gets to spend time outside his cage
He has learned what he's allowed to chew (cement- wooden furniture)
and what not to chew (electric cords).
The call went out for a companion.
Early last month, squirrel in the box arrived.
Twice the size of Alvin, and probably twice as old.
A meeting between the two didn't go well.
Boxy Lady needed her own cage.
I'd considered releasing her.
That decision was put on hold when I heard squeaks from her box.
Last week I had three tiny squirrels scurrying about.
I had to enclose the cage with a smaller mesh.
I'm watching them through a monitor.
They're still quite shy around humans
Hopefully there's a female in the litter.
Once they're able to survive on their own (three months) I plan to set all but one free.
Squirrels reach sexual maturity at eight to eleven months
