200430 Less rain forecast for 2020 rainy season

It's not the worst I've seen, but it's getting close

worst I've seen is when this pumping station runs dry.

Amazon at one of the hospital exits.  Maybe open in June or July of August

Guessing a tall building is coming there.

Driving through town I saw many shops open.  The most likely excuse, thos shops also are residences. Social distancing was even violated by law enforcement hiding in the shade with friends.

Droughts and floods are a fact of life in Thailand, little is being done to ease the problems

It's that time of the year when droughts are discussed and forecast.  Some sources seem to think it will be especially severe this year, while others are saying we have enough water to last till the rainy season.

I'm Guessing  the lake water level is down by about three feet since August 15, 2018 👇 and fairly normal compared to past years.

Rice farmers are being advised not to plant a second crop to insure sufficient water for farming. Many rice farmers have switched to growing corn

Approximately three months till the rainy season arrives

Tao Ngoi, some 30 km from Sakon City had solved it's water shortages a few years ago by building a dam in 2012.  There must have been some complaints from downstream. Looks like the dam is being demolished

Extended weather forecasts  are mere educated guesses, especially if you look at months into the future.  Unforeseen weather events can change the outcome

That said, expect little drought relief from the weather until May.
Most likely we will experience a few showers in April. From experience, there is at least some rain on one of the Songkran holidays.
It will be interesting to keep an eye on the local lake. I have not heard that it ever went completely dry.
Truth or Fiction
Maybe this is the year that we get to see the Buddhist statue claimed to be under water in the lake.
There had been reports a few years ago of attempts to raise the statue, unfortunately the cranes available did not accomplish the task

Drought Disasters on the rise

Just as I was leaving Apple's before noon yesterday, traffic was stopped for a V.I.P convoy.

Umpteen police cars, front and rear of a convoy of V.I.P. vans.
Someone important was in town, but who?

Deciphered the news this morning at ryt9

T'was the governor and officials from surrounding provinces.
They were having a drought powwow, and were on their way to Khok Si Suphan,
where they declared the area another drought disaster area
Think they'll be doing more of that in the coming months
