Hot in the Valley

You run necessary errands early in the morning, before the heat does you in.
Shopping and a quick pub stop.

By noon its time to close all doors and windows and crank up the air con.

Fans weren't any use, it was like blowing hot air from a pizza oven.
We should have had some rain by now.
Weather was approaching from all directions and seemed to hold hands in a circle around us.

I call it the doughnut effect.
A strong system from the south is forecast to give us a few days of rain. From the looks of it the system is petering out on our doorstep.

Uncomfortably hot,

then soggy weekend

If you thought it was hot today, expect uncomfortable temperatures by mid-morning on Thursday.

The main weather system continues to arrive from the northwest.

High temperatures and humidity are causing some locally born thunderstorms early in the day Thursday.

Thunderstorms Friday through Sunday.

The weather system to the south deserves a close eye, as it could possibly clash with the weather from the northwest.  In that case keep your goloshes handy this weekend.

"ABOUT" Robinson opening

The previous posted opening date of July 1 has been changed.
A recent post at Sakon Nakhon Daily indicates
the opening date is "ประมาณ 27 มิถุนายน "
That translates to "About / Approximate 27 June."

The original date seemed a bit unusual.
July 1 is a midyear banking holiday.

Probably wont confirm the precise date until the posters go up and traveling loudspeakers are in the neighborhoods

Fiber optic in some locations

They were laying fiber optic cable on the street in front of Apple's restaurant.

Having been a pole lineman in my late teens (1963).
The rope belt caught my eye.

We had wooden poles and leather belts.
Used to be scares sh..less
every time I had to climb a pole.
Quickly changed my profession.

These guys have cement poles and rope belts.
I'm sure they check the rope daily for wear and tear?

Outhouse Breath Generation

Eating bugs is nothing new in Thailand.
They've been doing that for eons.

Fried bugs is a delicacy to many.

Bugs are plentiful right after the rainy season, sold at many fairs and public gatherings.

Ate a cockroach by accident back in 1963.
Was inside in a German Brötchen (bread roll) and a horse-meat Wiener.
I gagged and puked when I saw half a cockroach in my sandwich.
Didn't eat a German bread roll for at least a decade.

Problem with eating bugs, they haven't been gutted.
You get to eat the whole intestine and everything inside.
Bug eaters breath tends to smell like an outhouse.

Motocross video by DJMZAA

There have been a number of videos of the recent Motocross event in Sakon Nakhon.
This one is the best in my opinion.

Did not attend the race personally.  Couldn't find and soundproofing earmuffs to protect my sensitive ears.

This video shows a bit of the audience, which other videos did not.  Seemed to have been fairly well attended.
What caught my eye was the winners podium: 'Painted oil drums.'  That had to be a careful balancing act!

Sakon FC at Amnat Charoen

Even though Sakon FC did not play on Saturday, due to games that were played, Sakon FC had slipped to 11th place.

Today's 4-1 win at Amnat Charoen has advanced the team to 10th place.
The team could easily advance their division standing next Sunday, when they host Nong Bua Lamphu.  Even though game time is scheduled to start at 5 pm.  Most previous start times had been changed to 4 pm.

Nong Bua Lamphu is second from the bottom in the division, having won only one game this season, with 6 draws and 5 losses.
