Linfa may have some local effect sometime next week. Most likely midweek temperatures will drop. Scattered thunderstorms.
The Ubon candle festival seems to be the most advertised, but it's not the only celebration in Thailand. It's celebrated in cities and villages throughout the country, recognising the start of Buddhist lent (Khao Phansa).
Have not seen any local advertisement regarding a parade later this month, but it would be unusual if no parade was planned. Will do some checking and update this post
If you happened to see more than usual bicycles on the road yesterday, many riders in cycling clothes, then they were probably on their way to register for the "Bike for Mom" event. It's a nationwide event which will be held in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 83rd birthday on August 12.
The story has circulated nationwide in online print and video and news broadcasts. Have not seen the story being picked up by international media up to now. A few pictures are appearing on shutterstock.com
