Sakon Wax Candle parade

Taking an educated guess here. Around 5 pm.
There's a chance that the rain will cease for the parade.

Sakon Nakhon Super Amazing

The first video: production in itself is professional quality.  The parade and performances superbly choreographed. Most performers (participants) got into the spirit of things.

Battle of the bands. A couple really great

Heard the band in the distance, rushed, grabbed my cigarettes, wallet and camera. Rode my motorcycle and reached the beginning of the paradeI really felt all parade participants should have shade for their eyes

Some stars of the show required makeup, a helpfull protection from the sun

Some participants luckily were given sun protection

Parading while texting... or is it a video game
The princess lost her silver slippers.
Stiletto high heeled shoes are not intended for highway trekking

The show must go on, even if it's barefoot on a hot cement

HRH King's Birthday celebration in Sakon Nakhon

The word was out, parade starts at 4 pm from the city gate park. So why were they gathering at the local temple?
Turns out, they split the parade into two segments, starting from two locations
The city gate gathering began marching 5 pm. Timing was a bit late for the temple parade, there was about a 20 minute delay between parade arrivals at the provincial grounds.
Seemed to be one of those days no one knew for sure if alcohol sales were prohibited or not.
Some bars were closed, others were not
5 pm, the parade is underway
There wasn't really very much of a spectator crowd along the parade route, parade participants outnumbered spectators.  Even though most participants were really into the spirit of the parade and it's purpose, many seemed to be preoccupied texting or ordering pizza, or arranging a dinner date after the parade.  Did notice many local restaurants did brisk business after the parade.

Ah yes, early in the parade I saw a group of school girls looking in all directions to see if it was safe, then making their great escape (away from the parade).

Parade season is a go!

Text message received

Since the coup last year there has been a noticeable absence of school (sport day) parades.  They seem to have had a recent restart.  This one is a parade from a nearby school.
Parades  are an important part of the yearly school curriculum

Candlelight / Wax Candle parade July 31 ?

The Ubon candle festival seems to be the most advertised, but it's not the only celebration in Thailand.  It's celebrated in cities and villages throughout the country, recognising the start of Buddhist lent (Khao Phansa).
Have not seen any local advertisement regarding a parade later this month, but it would be unusual if no parade was planned. Will do some checking and update this post

To Be Health Parade

I missed this event, had not seen any advance notice anywhere T.i.T.

The event took place on January 8, with the main event taking place in the hospital parking lot.

Recognized a few folk, including one of the speakers

Sakon Nakhon King's Birthday Parade
2014

What time is the parade? After a few calls the word was 4 pm or so, starting at the Provincial headquarters. The answer was apparently false based on previous year's information.

Nevertheless I drove past the provincial complex and found no activity associated with the start of a parade.  On a hunch I drove to the city gate park.  Where I saw the crowd growing with a continuous arrivals of parade participants.

The parade got under way at 5:15.

Two Parade day on I.T.U. minutes apart

Heard this obnoxiously loud music and announcements a few blocks from my house.
9:30 am was really too early for a wild party in the Neighborhood.

When I arrived at the main road I saw what I perceived an advertising parade.
Complete with police escort.

Notice how many vehicles with mounted speakers.
Of course the volume was obnoxious.
Four vehicle simulcast

I had just returned home when I heard marching music.
Kids parade by a local school.

Pardon me, but dressing up young girls as Vegas showgirls just doesn't seem appropriate to me in a children parade. I tend to be a bit prudish in public.

The bands where actually very impressive sounding.
