Read an article where they are increasing park patrols in Bangkok to curtail teenage hugging and kissing in public. There were also some outcries a few months ago when some kissing and hugging was witnessed on Bangkok public transportation. On the other hand, nothing is wrong if same sex individuals place their hands on your thigh. I have had that happen a number of times in public and generally considered it as drunken behavior. If it happens to you, stay calm, politely move away and let them know you're not comfortable with that. Don't turn it into a confrontation. Two teenage guys or girls walking down the street holding hands may be perceived by westerners as being gay, but in the majority of cases it's simply a sign of friendship. At the beach, bare breasted women, or too revealing g-strings may get a warning or worse. You'd think a country with an active sex industry, would be a bit more liberal minded in this regard. |
