New multiple entry visa discourages longstay

New six month multiple entry visa has some serious restrictions. You can only stay in Thailand for 60 days, then you have to do a border run.  The price is 5,000 baht, and you have to show you have at least 200,000 baht in your bank account

OK, let's add some details here. Each entry is for 60 days and can be extended in country by another 30 days, (exactly the same as the old 1,2 and 3 entry tourist visa). The biggest stumbling blocks are; having to apply for it in your home country and also many consulates/embassies are asking for proof of employment in your home country. It would seem that this visa has been brought in to stop illegal working on tourist visas and also the people who were using tourist visas to long stay in the country, instead of getting the correct visa or extension of stay. This new visa with its issuance guidelines will affect no-one who is not a genuine tourist.
