Security Alert: Exercise caution traveling to Myanmar border regions in Tak Province and the city of Mae Sot, Thailand

Location:  Tak Province and the city of Mae Sot, Thailand
 
The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens to exercise caution when traveling to the Myanmar border regions in Tak Province and the border city of Mae Sot.  The U.S. Embassy Regional Security Office advised U.S. Embassy staff that at no time should anyone enter an area controlled by the Royal Thai Army.  In Mae Sot, travelers should avoid the area north of Bridge 1. 
 
Actions to Take:
  • Exercise caution when traveling to the Myanmar border regions in Tak Province and the border city of Mae Sot.
  • Do not enter an area controlled by the Royal Thai Army.
  • Monitor local media and our Embassy website for updates
  • Check your email regularly for further alerts.
  • Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts.
