One o'clock they said. I decided to show up half an hour late after visiting with Scott at the great ESCAPE.
The game got underway promptly at 2:10 Most of the team and coach are from my neighborhood. Have known many of the families for a number of years.
Had a front row seat on the team bench. Of course cheering a winning team is always more fun. Game action was near superior... ...though each team received one yellow card. Sakon FC should really be scouting these games.
After the game I donated Bt 1,000 ($30) to the winning team for their victory celebrations.
Most of the team showed up at my house for a Thai style beef dinner after concluding their victory celebrations.

Heard drums beating, loud music and speeches for the past three days.
The sounds typically associated with parades.
I've seen so many, I didn't bother the last two days to go up the street and look.
The music and speeches were especially loud this morning.
Went to see what the commotion was all about.
It was the local grade school having their day.

Weather
Pool weather. Hot days cool nights continue for another week.
Extended forecast calls for cloudy and rain by the following weekend, with a few "air conditioner" nights.
Blog Comments Always welcome and appreciated.
Obviously I do not publish personal comments.
At times I receive private e-mail questions and comments prevalent to public interest, and thus answer them publicly.
I tend to not publish offensive language, even when disguised with **** or #@%$!
Negative opinions "without elaboration," especially by Anonymous also tend to be ignored.

Didn't think so from the start. Was more of a publicity stunt.

My house was almost at a capacity crowd. Video game on the front porch, ping pong and swimming.
The pool water is too cold as far as I am concerned, but not for half a dozen visitors.
No one was interested in watching the parade or the celebrations. I was on my own.
It wasn't the usual parade down main street, but four smaller parades converging on the city park.
I stopped off at the local Chinese temple. I knew they were making last minute preparations for the festivities.
Last minute preparations were also underway at the park.
Then I saw rows of security and government vehicles.
With such heavy security, undoubtedly high ranking officials would be present.
Made me loose all interest in staying around.
Locally it was a dry day (No Alcohol Sales). According to Dave The Rave this was not a nationwide dry day. Bangkok was one of the cities where alcohol sale was allowed. Bars and clubs were open for business.
Used to be a nationwide dry day. In subsequent years alcohol sales were allowed. These days it seems to be up to local governments. Or is it that no one knows the law and makes up their own.
I had no problems buying a beer and saw a number of purchases wrapped in newspaper.
On the subject of alcohol, Pattaya has extended bar hours to 3 AM and is considering allowing bars to remain open 24 hrs. Bars are particularly hurting because of the continuing downturn of customers.
A number of bars have closed permanently. More closures are likely.
Heard drums beating (this afternoon)
Nothing on the main street, so I drove down to the local school (Sakon Pattana Suska).
It was a parade rehearsal. They are having a student activities day (aka Sport Day) this Friday.
Just hearing about their parade route makes me feel tired.
They start off at the Provincial office buildings and finish the parade at the school.
S-BAC will have their day on Dec 28. Visitors welcome.
Frozen Treat
Most fruit or vegetables have to be blanched before you can freeze them.
Apparently not grapes. Clean them and stick a bowl in the freezer.
Makes a refreshing frozen snack.
Grandma's Cure
Been taking a couple of aspirin per day.
Add to that five cups of coffee in the morning, and you have an upset stomach.
Been drinking plenty of the pink stuff lately to ease my painfull upset stomach.
Then I remembered my Grandmother's remedy. I powdered my rice with cinnamon.
Relief was almost immediate. Been using cinnamon daily in tea since then.
It's cold out there

The building seems to be complete and awaiting it's Occupants.
With the school a matter of five minutes from my house, I went there briefly this morning, after having been invited to watch what must have been local Junior League Football.
I probably should have stayed home and nurse myself back to health. I couldn't resist.
In town streets were controlled by traffic police, as an apparent children jogging marathon took place.
Outside of town, at the military reservation they also were celebrating children's day.
Looked more like a fair ground. A single jet circled the area twice.
Quite unusual to see a jet in this area. While waiting for the parade to start, a bicycle racing team passed.
I don't know where people get the idea my name is money. Many kept calling me that.
Oh yes I did pass out 3,000 baht in 20 baht denomination before I left.
This time I planned a bit ahead, brought my own chair, refreshments, and jacket. It did get a bit nippy during the last hour.
Being the final game of the annual competition, I knew there would be no seating available in the bleachers and I would have needed earplugs.

Udon vs Yasothon
Udon was favored. They held the title more than five times.
The first and only goal during the first five minutes of the game decided that Udon was not going to remain undefeated champion. After that the outcome was quite obvious. The first half of the game and the halftime show were broadcast live. I understand home viewers saw me on TV three times.
T.i.T. During half time I decided to use the restroom. The men's room was out of service. The lady's restroom, with individual stalls, became a unisex restroom. The cubicle I finally got my turn at turned out to be a shower stall. I couldn't get myself to use it as a urinal. I got back to the end of the line and waited for a proper toilet.
The competition concluded with a fireworks display.
Just received a note advising of a regional Sport Day to be held tomorrow (Saturday) in Chiang Khrua. The all day event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Chiang Khrua is approximately 15 k.m. north of Sakon Nakhon on highway 22 in the direction of Nakhon Phanom.
Even though hailed as Sport Day, the event is not limited to sport activities. It is a celebration of family, friends and community uniquely Thai.
These photo's where taken in November 2007. This apparent father of one of the players very much demonstrates old age enthusiasm.
Start off full of energy. Enough to cheer on a whole crowd. As the event progresses, you begin to tucker out. One final effort while seated. You drop your arms and look around for someone else to continue the cheer
School sport day, I'd change the name to "make your dreams come alive."
Costumes, make-up and hours of practice and everyone changes identity. Some are dressed as members of the royal court. Others are cheerleaders, sports celebrities, still others outdo any Vegas Act.
And then of course there are those boys in drag. The lady boys. This is a moment when they can dress and act their feminine fantasy.
Visiting dignitaries are important to these events, adding purpose. Just wish their speeches were shorter. The kids are facing the sun and squinting. You can tell they'd rather go on with the show. Football, cheerleading competitions, trophies to win...
