Soggy and Humid Weather ahead

Rain is headed this way. Day temperatures are getting warmer. Night time temperatures remain cool.
Forecast high humidity will raise the 'Feels Like" temperatures considerably.

I'm ready. Got the pool filling hose ready.

There's a reason why you need fences and gates around your yard:  Free range (and city) cattle

So I had my mind in the gutter

Well it does sound a bit like...
But apparently it's associated with fine Japanese dining.

What are Mongs?

Dreamy Mongs are a set of cartoon characters popular in Asia.
Around here no one will notice the bad grammar.

It's a friendship gift from a very special person.

Sakon Nakhon Legal Executions

The pitfalls of using online translation services

Please leave a comment if you can improve on the translation. I somewhat suspect it has something to do with documents, not people

Observations

Sakon Nakhon cable available within the city costs Bt 3,500 per year.
I just received my bill. When you pay yearly, you also get a free T-shirt.
Through my TV controls I was able to rearrange individual stations to my likings.

Many cable broadcasts are not interrupted during heavy rains.
When my satellite reception is interrupted I switch to cable.

Continue to occasionally receive the blocking message when surfing the net
Best thing when that happens, is to hit the reload button.
That seems to solve the problem.

Google translate service is quite helpful at times. At other times it's just too hilarious.
This is a translation from WaNonNiWat in Sakon Nakhon Province.

Thai VIP

Thai gentlemen of high esteem must stand tall.
High heels are therefore important.

Talking about VIP. I was one of those my first year here, VIP.
Talk about butchering my name "Hans. "The sign read "VIP Mister Hung."
I'm not making that up, I have a picture of that sign somewhere.
Come on Tony, let's hear your wise crack on that one.
I know you're just itching with one.
For a good laugh visit

Exercise

The local park at the lake gets quite busy daily around 5 p.m. with people jogging and all other forms of exercise.
There are a number of exercise stations with instructions.
This one caught my attention, is that a fart? Is it part of the exercise?

How do you translate that ? Up to you !

These road signs are at a local intersection.
A typical example that there are different opinions in translating names.

Another example of differing translations is the North Eastern region of Thailand: Isan, Isaan, Isarn, Issan, or Esarn.

Sakon Nakhon seems to be the most acceptable translation of the city/ province,
however here also are a number of variations in translation:  Sakonnakhon, Sakol Nakholn, Sakorn Nakorn..

In Thai script the name is one word, while it becomes two words when translated.

The meaning of the words also are not clear.
Some translations indicate center of the universe, others claim it to mean international city, apparently also incorrect

Go shopping at SATISFIED REJOICE ROAD

or you can eat at the Bamboo Ball on ROAD ELIMINATE DANGER

Internet translating services have come a long way.
Some languages are better than others.
Thai translation still needs some fine tuning,   Google Translate is an example.

I checked out the translated page of the Sakon Nakhon Provincial Government website: http://www.sakonnakhon.go.th/

Being able to view Thai websites in your native language his quite helpful, educational, and informative.
That is until you try reading some paragraphs.
It takes a bit of time deciphering and trying to make sense of the translations. But there's plenty of worthwhile information to be gleaned here.

Wear your helmet

Of course there are plenty of exceptions to this law,
if you know what I mean.

Toon Bar weekly schedule

Edited the contents of this sign. If you must know why, I'll respond in a personal message.
Didn't take too long to figure out they meant month.
(Some sign makers purposely misspell words as a way to get your attention).
Live Thai Music girl and boy. Now that I am having a bit of a problem with in translation.
Thais have boy and girl music?  Male and female performers or couples night.
Fridays is a good evening to sit outside.

Definetly a hard sell on Happy Hour (listed twice)

Hard Choices: simultaneous events

Counted three school Parades / Christmas celebrations by the time I arrived at the S-BAC: celebration (#4).

Tinglish (Thai-English)

These are school sponsored family and community events.
An opportunity to dress up and become someone else.

Another day of great fun.

PB Air has anounced a reduction of fuel charges to take effect December 15.
Present fuel surcharges are 850 baht.
New rates announced are 750, a 100 baht savings.

The airline offers frequent flier miles through their Saen Sabai program.
