Sakon 1, Mukdahan 0

If I would have bet on the start time, I would have lost the bet.
The game started promptly at 5 PM, as advertised by Sakon FC.

Surprisingly large crowd attended the opening game of the season.
A busload of soldiers filled some of the stand.

I sat amidst Sakon FC players who had not been chosen in the lottery to be part of the lineup.

During the first half the Sakon goalie was kept quite busy and made a number of great saves. Otherwise the action seemed a bit slow. Both teams were testing each others strengths and weaknesses.

Half-Time entertainment was one of the better ones I've seen for Sakon FC (video pending).

The pace of the action picket up quite a bit during the second half.  Sakon got the ball into the goal.  The cheering was short lived when the the flag became visible.  No Goal!

That just added fuel to the intensity of the game, the last 15 minutes of the game kept the audience at the 'edge of their seats.'

Sakon Scored.

The feast began with the monks' program 'then' dance train "to the temple, about a kilometer to dance. I think I was the only sober there, but everyone had fun and no fights. In the evening, the Thai boxing and outdoor movie. Maybe I will go back tonight and watch boxing.

Time to Rock

Democratic Football or Vote buying exercise?

Sakon FC has been training every evening in preparation for today's game.

Sakon FC lists starting time as 5PM, while Mukdahan has schedulled the game to begin at 6 PM.

That's a minor controversy compared to rumblings among some players.

Seems they were handed slips of paper and were asked to vote on a starting line-up.
Isn't that the coaches decision, to select the best qualified, rather than putting it out for a vote?
Is this for real, or was this just a teamwork exercise? Vote buying exercise?

By 2 PM players were still in the dark regarding today's lineup
The first game of the season will be important to both teams.  Proof in the pudding is in the eating

The canals are open for swimming.  At least that's what I've been told.  Haven't had the interest to venture out and see for myself.  Too busy with the groups around my pool.  We've used up all pool towels and I got to squirt ice water at the unsuspecting while enjoying a coconut-rum.

Football (soccer) season starts now

Sakon FC starts season hosting Mukdahan FC, Saturday, March 5, 5 PM
The team ended the last season in the middle of the pack in Division 2.
Plenty of changes in this years lineup will mean that they are starting all over again.
The team does have a few sponsors, none of them willing to pass out big bucks, at least not yet.
It's going to be interesting how the team develops

Sakon FC introduces the team

Security at the Red Rally was quite noticeable.
We had to drive past the field to get to our destination, the FC restaurant.

It was media and fan day for Sakon FC.

Speeches, interviews, introductions of staff and players took up the early hours.

After dinner the party started to break up, but it wasn't over.  Seems like parties just moved to other locations.

One of those locations was at my house, where about a dozen players gathered.
I haven't the slightest idea when the party at my house broke up.  All I can say this morning is "No hang."

School's Out, at least for some

Yesterday's pool visitors arrived early.
I generally don't' see the crowd till after 2 PM.
I asked if everyone was skipping school.  They weren't.  It was the last school day for them.

Some schools in the area have concluded their classes, other schools will end sometime within the next two weeks

Friday night there were plenty of "student celebrations." They'll most likely continue...
