Rainy Season

The approaching clouds were borne overnight in Laos and seem to still growing in size while moving in a southeasterly direction 
A thundershower likely  early afternoon.


Thai Meteorological Department predicts decreased rain for Friday and Saturday (40%), then increasing to 60% with the start of the new week.
Sakon Nakhon was hit the hardest during recent storms which affected five provinces in Northeast Thailand

Rice turns to dust  ←link

Local Google Map updated

It's been brought to my attention that local google satellite maps were recently updated.
As an example: The highway on which Apples restaurant is located was not indicated on maps until the update

 
How recent the map update occurred can be noted in the image below, where the 3 story shophouse building completed in November 2013 is visible across from apples, yet the newer built cowboy restaurant across the street is still an empty field


The cowboy themed restaurant was built early this year, indicating that the local map was probably updated late last year or no later than January this year.

VAT down then UP

Value-Added Tax (VAT) is to be lowered from the current 7% rate to 6.4% effective October 1, 2014. Plans are to raise the VAT in October 2015 to 9 or possibly 10%

Typhoon Rammasun Aftermath

The typhoon washed out a number of local bridges and submerged 156 villages in 5 districts
