It seems Phang Khon experienced the worst of this storm. There were some online videos of the storm in Surin and high winds in Wanon Niwat (north of Phang Khon). In march winds tend to get quite strong, a time when we transition from cooler to the very hot season.

Big WIn for Sakon FC in second elimination game of the 2018 Toyota Cup

A further elimination round is yet to be announced and will most likely be held after Songkran. Sakon Nakhon FC now travels to Ubon for a regular Thai League season game this Saturday. One can only hope that the Sakon Nakhon Team comes out a big winner this weekend |

High winds cause damage 50 km west of Sakon City
After weather warnings three days ago by Thai Meteorological Department I monitored weather maps and forecasts on a very regular basis. On the first day most of the winds and rains moved along the southern Isan provinces. No local rain. Yesterday at the ballgame a slight breeze, but still hot and muggy. Today's TMD weather alert did not include Sakon Nakhon, suggesting that this storm was unexpected The Home shopping center with a gas station across the street is just outside the city of Phan Khon, 50 km from Sakon Nakhon City. The storm seemed to be moving South to North. A lesser storm was experienced in Wanon Niwat  |

Scattered thunderstorm or two likely
The TMD Summer thunderstorm warnings were a bit of an overstatement in regards to Sakon Nakhon Weather. Rainy and windy weather moved well south of the city, but did cool local afternoon temperatures to bearable.   Pictures above: 2 pm, 5 pm yesterday.
