Wax Castle construction is well under way
From the looks of these two temple visits today, I'd say construction is past the half way point. The festival begins October 21. The parade is October 23.
Vegetarian Festival
The local celebration is nothing like what you can expect in Phuket.

Two of the scary things in Thailand windows and balconies
It's an open window with nothing to hold you back from falling six floors. There's nothing between that cement wall and the window, which is less than knee high.
Similarly balcony rails are not much higher.
Balcony deaths, whether accidental or intentionally, are quite common in Thailand.
Lao PO Daeng boat races start Friday
Took a short round trip to Lao PO Daeng where they are having a boat racing festival this weekend. It's a twenty minute drive from Sakon City, down the road past Global.
Along the way workers were cutting grass and weed along the road, others were sweeping as part of the preparations for increased traffic.

A good parking place is at the temple for a small fee
Turn left near the red painted portal
You can walk through the shaded temple grounds to the rear exit, turn right and you're at the lake
In case you need it a medical emergency treatment center is on the highway about 2 km from the lake. Really great people there.
Three nights of concerts.
