Doing the verbal two step

Remember these headlines?

Here's an update

Police says no intention to block public use of Line application

Just want to find "... users that were using the application as a channel to sell illegal arms, drugs, or for prostitution."

  One Year Anniversary Special

Fun night out in Sakon Nakhon.

Fourth day with no rain, mostly cloudy conditions kept the temperatures quite pleasant for this evening out.

Google Earth, Saturday morning

The price for a night celebrating was well worth it.  My bill came to 300 baht per person. Ten Bucks U.S.

The musicians who entertain at Tippy's every Friday and Saturday are really great.  Mostly sixties western music.  I wasn't the only one singing along.  It sounded more like a chorus at times.

They are really well worth a visit.

The headliner of the evening was Eugene Hideaway Bridges

Notice the slight misprint in the poster? hidaway - hideaway

  August in Sakon Nakhon

No local rain in the past 72 hours.
A few scattered showers reported in outlying areas.
It's as if the rainy season is going to wind down early this year.

More vehicles on the road, especially after the recent government buyer program.

I was a tow truck driver for a few years (1970's).
I know you have to pull a stuck vehicle straight forward, not to one side.
Drove past the scene an hour later. The truck had sunk a lot deeper into the mud.

Temporary abandonment.

Most of you know Tony is selling everything and wants to move on.
A portion of his land sold. The better part is still available

He also has a few other items for sale

Freezer, fridge, telescope, bamboo furniture

Saw this elsewhere. Nice lamps. The bug trap needs to be emptied soon

If you missed it on Facebook.  Simon posted some then and now pictures.

LIVE at Tippy's Friday, Aug 16

Always wondered if Sakon Nakhon would be visited by a Westerner with some fame to his name.
When I heard Eugene Hideaway Bridges was in town, I knew I had to take a road trip to Kok Si Supan.

Mr Bridges has taken out a few days from his schedule to visit a friend here.
He was out about the town last night and did a bit of impromptu performance at a nightclub near the Chinese temple.

Before meeting Mr Bridges I searched the net to see what people had to say about him:

  • He's a very cool guy and a very talented musician
  • Absolutely Awesome 5 Star
  • Eugene is great. Come back to the UK soon

After a brief meeting with Eugene and getting some LIVE samples of his music, I am totally impressed.
His personality reflects his music, blues, soul and a little bit country.
I felt totally comfortable in his presence.
Not like some other Hollywood types I've met, snobbish, with a better than thou attitude (Elvis).

He tours internationally, Australia is a recent favorite. He's also looking forward to a trip home to New Orleans, after an R&R stopover in Singapore.

Of avoiding paparazzi, he says: "I just won't wear my hat.  Without my hat hardly anyone seems to recognize me."

Eugene's DNA is full of music. Father "Magic" Hideaway Slim.
A relative of his mother is none other than Anna Mae Bullock, better known as Tina Turner.

Why the name Hideaway? A long line of "BLUES"
"Hideaway" is a 1960's song recorded by Freddie King.
Freddie King credits the the song to Hound Dog Taylor

       Utter Utor Hooey

First noticed Utor last Sunday, August 11, as it was approaching the Philippines:

It was too early to forecast what would happen a week later.
These things can do a lot of unexpected twists and turns.

August 13

Typhoon Utor forecast to drench 27 provinces " today and tomorrow"

THE NATION, August 15, 2013, 7:05 am

Provinces forecast to experience drenching according to THE NATION article are highlighted in yellow.

I don't see any local devastation caused by UTOR, with the center of the storm heading northwest

I've mentioned tentacles. I suspect a t-storm here and there,mostly cloudy, a rain shower

Unless of course UTOR happens to decide to follow the road signs

I'm surprised not to find UTOR caution flags for northern Thailand.

...Eating OFF the Menu...

You can go to any restaurant and ask if they can prepare a meal not on their menu.
It's all a matter of available ingredients and preparation time.

They're not going to do it if the restaurant is at capacity crowd.
Most often they are willing for a SPECIAL PRICE.

Writes Apple's Dan:

"It has been years since I had some good French Toast. So I made some."

Wonder if that comes with Canadian Maple syrup now available locally at a high price

...Typhoon tentacles...

   1.56 inches of rain overnight
Today: Hot and sunny early in the day, around noon the clouds start rolling in.
Tonight: Overnight thunderstorm (same same yesterday).

The center of Typhoon Utor remains far north from us, but it's tentacles are reaching out to us
