World Evangelical Alliance General Assembly gathers in Pattaya

Makes you wonder why they choose Pattaya.

Imagine where they are headed after the meetings convene.

Unusual "huge house guest

Wedding Reception

I was invited through a friend to attend a local Thai wedding. I had no idea who was getting married.

For me it was simply an evening out of the house, free food and drink, and meeing a few friends.

Apparently this was more of a reception, rather than a full fledged wedding.
Most likely the formal ceremonies where held earlier in the day. This party had very little ceremonial rituals..

Someone in the family must have been of Vietnamese descent. Much of the music this evening was Vietnamese.
Even though I dont’ understand the language, I’ve always enjoyed the music..

The eight courses of food were quite appetizing. What’s nice about such meals is the large variety.
If there is an item you don’t like, someone else will like it.

I was warned about the spicy salad. I took a small taste. The taste cleared my sinuses, that’s all I needed.

The young blonde,Thai waitress caught the eye of a gentelman at our table.
This insured that we had a continuous supply of beer.
As soon as the beer ran low, our gentelman friend took the opportunity to call on the young waitress.

A trip to the toilet was an experience in itself. It also seemed to serve as a smoking room that evening.
Exhaust fans in the restrooms were blowing air in, instead of out.
As you walked into the room you walked into a cloud of smoke. I felt tall, I had my head in the clouds.

Entrances to both restrooms were directly opposite from each other. You had to really stand close to the urinals,
so that the ladies could not scrutenize you too closely from across the hall.

It is customary that guests bring an envelope with a donation, The wedding present.
Also 'customary is that all visitors receive a trinket to remember the event.

Last night's token, a hand shaped candle is now added to a growing trinket collection.

Seasonal Fine Dining

With the drier weather a local delicacy is once again becoming available.
I have no desire to taste it.
Warning: if your friends enjoy this delicacy,
make sure you provide them with breath mints.

Computer keyboard coverup

Keyboard getting grimy, dusty, humid, sticky?
Well then clean it.
Then cover it up with plastic wrap

Keyboards produce no heat. They have no ventilation holes.
One layer of wrap is all thats needed. Keyboard stays clean.

Of course this is not recommended for laptops.

Three days to go: Lake Preparations

Finally there is some movement at the local lake.
Be prepared for a slight downhill obstacle course in case you "need to go."

Tents are appearing on the scene

The first cheerleading platform seems completed.

Number placards looked like they where walking themselves into position.

Three days to go

I was on my way to the local bank when I noticed these two watching the parade go by.

Across the street from the bank, the grandstand had been erected a few days ago.

Great photos of our planet

VIP treatment

M recently delivered three envelopes from SBAC.
Two contained passes to the parade grandstands

A third envelope contained an apparent form letter.
Obviously composed by a Thai English Teacher,
I call it Tinglish, a bit difficult to read English.
The basic jest of the letter, 200 students from S-BAC will participate in the parade.

Not until I re-read the letter three days later did I notice that it was an invite for financial support.
Sorry folks, with less than ten day notice I can only come up with Bt 4,000.
If I would have gotten more advance notice I could have donated more. Fixed income here.

Parade participation isn't cheap:
Costume rentals, transportation, food and drink, decorations, make-up....

Makes you appreciate this festival even more knowing that it's all done with donations.

PPS files are notorious for hidden viruses

I read that somewhere on the internet a while back.

My computer was acting up.
Files disappeared from my open windows and strangely reappeared.
Checked my drives with Norton, and sure enough:
Virus detected, hidden in a PPS file I had recently received in e-mail.

Unlike most graphics files PPS (power point slideshow) contains script,
a perfect place to hide viruses, worms and the like,

Some mail servers (gmail) now allow you to view the slideshow content online without downloading the file.
