190608 Mostly cloudy Saturday morning

Replacing a plastic porch roof which started to bang in the wind and leak like a siff.  On a cloudy Saturday Morning

what it used to look like, pieced together.

High humidity rainy season means little or no dust

Until last week I had to clean my pool almost daily to remove dust which had settled on the pool floor.
Once a week is fine now, less visitors now that school has started.

190506 Two ladies stocking lightbulb shelves claim "Don't have"

It's a very typical answer for various reasons.
I did a pantomime act of motion sensor and was directed to day-night sensors. Motion sensors were a shelf above.

They are great for those nighttime adventures to the refrigerator and even the toilet.  No switches to search for.

Daylight detectors operate during the day and in darkness. Others only function in darkness.

You will need to look at the side panel. Different brand names have different specifications. I prefer the 90 second delay.  Some sensors detect motion through the top of the bulb, while other sense through the sides.

190430 time to replace the plastic with something more durable

It was about 2008 when I raised the front wall and put up a plastic roof over the front porch.
It was a privacy issue since they had built a 16 unit apartment building across the street in the previous year.

Late last year the roof sprung a few minor leaks.
It was time to replace the plastic with something more durable

I have given up on soft drinks ...

... with the exception of an occasional root beer.
Make my own.  I reuse empty water bottles.  Rinse them and let them dry. My favorite drink is hibiscus flavored with honey or ginger or cinnamon and other flavorings. No sugar.

I make enough to last for a week or more

Replace

Driveway cover needed some repair. Won't come clean
This is after trying to wash off ten years of dirt.
Decided to replace with insulated metal roofing instead.

Early Harvest

Fruit on east side of the tree is already full size, while the rest of the tree is filled with tiny fruit smaller than a centimeter

Yeast + sugar = carbon dioxide (a gas)

One night's catch  in 2009
Many folk claim that the yeast trap "DON'T WORK."
I did it successfully. Brown sugar works best, as it contains molasses. Regular bread yeast works fine. Think wine yeast works better. Don't overfill the liquid, allow for gas expansion

Late harvest hibiscus tea

As I harvest the last crop of the year over one hundred plants are already sprouting for next spring crop.  Each one of these buds has close to a dozen seeds.

Death by Coffee

Had a snail invasion like I've never seen before.  As fields are drying out, snails are looking for moist areas.  Home gardens which get watered as needed are ideal. Just walking around the yard I frequently hear the crunch under my feet of crushed snails.

They are vegetarians and ate a crop of one inch green bean plants overnight. Also ate through fresh cactus

Coffee grounds are recommended on the net.  I tried instant coffee and caused instant death.  If coffee is watered down destruction is not so instant. Snails seem to cluster together.  I moved this group near the banana trees.  Coffee contains acid banana plants prefer acidic soil

Hibiscus grows like a weed

March of this year I harvested my first Hibiscus plants and made tea. I was impressed with the taste, the taunted health benefits and the ease of growing. I collected the seeds and planted them. Next seeding period I'll be uprooting some decorative bushes and replacing them with more Hibiscus.

No flowering during the rainy season, just plenty of green growth. Been trimming them and disposing the excess till I remembered why I planted them. "Hibiscus tea."
Actually prefer the red outer layer to the seed pods, no reason to let the leafs go to waste

Hibiscus is an ingredient in many weight loss products.

Night lights just got easier

Gone through a series of motion detector light fixtures. Most have broken down within a few years.
Then I saw motion detector light bulbs.  Tried one for a few days. Going to get me a whole bunch more

The last Mango

Third year tree produced 40 to 50 mangos. Once I said OK they disappeared in a week. Did plant two more trees last year, so I'm hoping for a bountiful harvest next year.
Like the green ones in a salad.
Flags on top of the page indicate the top ten visiting countries this week.  This changes occasionally and does indicate where the tourism interest is coming from
