Sakon FC on the road to Udon

I'm patiently waiting for the rain

The pool has been re-grouted and cleaned.
Nearly 6,000 liters (1,585 gallons) drained from my rainwater tanks.
The pool is nearly  1/3 filled. I need 12,000 liters more
This year we haven't had any of those heavy rains which would fill my pool in under half an hour.
From the looks of things, mother nature is not in any hurry to help.
May have to turn on the city taps.

Sakon FC at Udon FC 5 PM

I hear tell (rumor): Up to ten players are considered for replacement.

Death by Laukau, (Whiskey White)

Videos and pictures of recent fatal accidents always seem to involve a bottle of this stuff.

Rainy Season? Where's the rain?

Funeral services for Mr. Francois Max Adair

Saturday 1 pm, at Pra Wat Saphan Kam (downtown, next to the gas station.)

Thailand Got Talent video over 1 million views

                                                              in five days

Thailand's culture minister was outraged by the recent topless painting contestant on the televised show Thailand got Talent.
When I first heard of the incident, and saw the censored video, I was shocked,
The censored nudity wasn't what shocked me, it was the supposed artwork.
I've seen better 'art' painted by elephants.
Latest online reports indicate that the young lady wasn't a real contestant.
According to the online reports, the whole thing was planned to increase the show's ratings

  Rainy season, where's the rain?

Since June 7, we have had three rain days producing 71.2 mm (2.81inches) of rain.
Not the usual rainy season.
Thailand's Meteorological Department posted a warning on June 19
Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods...  possible in Sakon Nakhon
There was a strong weather system which seemed to head this way from China.
It fizzled out.  Sakon Nakhon only experienced cloudy skies, cool temperatures and wind gusts.
Chance of rain should increase somewhat over the next seven days.
There's local talk that we will experience a shortened rainy season this year, ending in July.
It's too early to say that with certainty as far as I'm concerned.  I'm keeping an eye on the weather developing in the South China Sea.

120619 Godfather of Thai French Beef dead at 65

Mr. Francois Max Adair, hailed the godfather of Ponyangkham beef, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in his home.
Mr Francois, as he was known by locals, was 65 and had been suffering from sclerosis.

I had seen Mister Francois in March of 2007. At that time he seemed quite frail and needed assistance while walking. Mr Francois Max Adair arrived in Sakon Nakhon in the mid 1970's. Through insemination of local cattle with French cattle semen, he created Thailand's connoisseur beef. He became a shareholder of Thai-French Beef. ..

Heavy rains cause snakes to seek drier grounds

Haven't seen any snakes near my house in a year
Last time was Friday, May 20, 2011 eeeeeeekeeeek Really big Snake

With nearby fields turning into ponds, snakes are on the move
Heard it twice this week: eeeeeeekeeeek, eeeeeeekeeeek.
Both times they were smaller snakes.  I quickly disposed of the critters.
I've seen snakes and even scorpions roaming within city limits, especially during the rainy season.
Picture taken 12 May 2005 by Mr. Bob
It's something to be aware of.
They hide in the strangest places
I don't ask Thai friends to dispose of snakes.  Thais throw the snake over the fence, and of course those snakes become a problem again the following day.
I have not been able to confirm recent talk of the death of a westerner due to snakebite.  The incident took place in a village at the bottom of Phu Phan mountains.  The man was standing in a pool of water, may well indicate that the man was in a flooded rice field
