Q & A

What happened to The Sakon Nakhon home page?

Unknown.  Made a number of attempts to contact Google in that matter, but so far have only received a computer generated reply which does not even address that problem.  I hope this can be corrected in the not too distant future.  Blocking this website has affected some map links which I will have to redo, if this can't be resolved.  Most of the data, such as Calendar, Festivals, Sightseeing, etc., had already been transferred to this blog.

Kham Hom Waterfall

The first thing quite obvious as you leave SakonNakhon on highway 213, heading towards Phu Phan, is the temperature.

As soon as you make your way up the winding mountain highway, it's pleasantly cooler.

The Kham Hom Waterfall is only about a twenty minute drive from the city.  It's a seasonal waterfall and only becomes active during and after the rainy season.

Even during the dry season it's worth a visit if you enjoy going for a walk along the nature trails.

Of course it's a lot more fun after the rainy season

Nature provides Europeans an excuse for extended vacations

Travelers planning return trips to Europe:
The New York Times supplies an updated list of airports affected by a cloud of ash from an erupting volcano in Iceland.

An Animated map of the spreading of  ash can be found  at
Denmark's Aarhus University

The volcano, which spewed up to eight miles into the atmosphere during earlier blasts, is now spewing ash up to three miles high.

At present there is no indication when air transportation will return to normal.
17,000 flights have been canceled to date, affecting an estimated 8 million people.
The volcano last erupted 1821 and was active for nearly two years.
