Early Bird Seating

Simon Lawrence sent me this picture of the new Sakon Nakhon Stadium on Airport Road.
Seems to me: very limited covered seating.
Rather than frying in the hot afternoon sun or taking a dousing, I'd make other plans

Roi Et wins! Did you expect otherwise?

The makeup game for Sakon FC vs Roi Et was moved to The University of Maha Sarakham campus stadium (174 km from Sakon Nakhon, 40 km from Roi Et).

On the way to the game

Road conditions through the Phu Phan mountain pass where dry and mostly clear skies.
I've been told that there are signs not to give handouts to the street beggars.
Old habits are hard to break.

Big Crowds at the stadium, almost capacity

Another score board on the fritz
Something flooded?

They must have kept the manual scoreboard for just such an occasion.
 As reads:       8  1
 Should read: 0  1

Two of the goals were penalty shots
Sakon Nakhon defense has noticeably improved. More improvement is hopefully pending.

The game ended on a somewhat sad note: A collision between two players required emergency room treatment for a Sakon Nakhon player (#9)
Details of the extend of the injury are still sketchy.

I like celebrating a victory just like the next guy.
But flares seems a bit dangerous. They spit hot lava

Even with this loss, Sakon FC remains in ninth position in the league.
Sakon FC next hosts Ubon Ratchathani, August 4.
Ubon FC had been the bottom of the barrel for many of the recent years.
This year Ubon FC consistently has been in the number two spot from the beginning of the 2013 season

Sakon Nakhon F.C. vs Roi Et F.C.
Wednesday, July 31, 2013 15.00 p.m.
at the United Institute of Maha Sarakham campus stadium.

I'd been asked:
Is this month's the worst flooding in Sakon Nakhon City? EVER!
I can only confirm the ten years I have lived here and say it is.

In August of 2008 flooding in the city was limited to a few places

Outlying areas fared worse.

Don't remember much flooding in my vicinity in 2012.
There was some heavy flooding elsewhere Obviously!

Most Sakon Nakhon city canals were built decades ago.  They sufficed then.
There's been a hell of a lot of home and business construction since then.
Lakes have been paved over, streams have been blocked.

Flood Cleanup

Had intended to visit some nearby villages to witness how they were faring.
A short distance from my house the water was a foot deep. Killed my motorcycle engine.
Subsequently I killed my battery.
I should get my motorcycle back shortly after noon with a new battery (480 baht).
Instead I walked around the neighborhood in my "Wellingtons"
They are too large for my feet without socks, causing a few blisters.

I thoroughly washed and disinfected my feet when I got home.

The Water level was receding.  In some places faster than others

Water pumps were used and shared everywhere

Most folk seemed in good spirit

Many homes were still awaiting their turn to used water pumps

Road markers had been installed
to advise drivers

The recently paved road in front of my house was above the surrounding water levels
 avoiding flooding

Recently paved but already cracked

Rain Intermission

Since yesterday afternoon it's been pleasantly dry and cool.
Not what had been in the forecast by all weather services.
They had forecast "More thunderstorms late afternoon and overnight."
Weather gets whimsical that way. It changes without notice sometimes.

Don't fret. There's plenty more wet days ahead.
From Thursday into the weekend it looks heavy.
