The Merry Elephant
I had not noticed the Merry Elephant until today while reading The Nation article Tourism Department sets new standard for jet ski rental service.
The Merry Elephant apparently was conceived by the Ministry of Tourism and Sport also known as the Department of Tourism. I found no reference to the merry elephant at TAT, Tourism Authority of Thailand, which made me somewhat curious if the two agencies consult with one another.

Sakon FC can expect a 1-2 punch
Ubon Ratchathani is coming to town for a Sunday game. Their record is 16 wins, 1 draw and one loss. Good reason why they are number one in the league.
Obviously I don't expect a win or draw for the local heros: "Sakon Nakhon FC."
I'm more interested to see if the defense can keep the number of goals to a minimum.
It remains to be seen if it will rain before the game.
If it does rain and the field is under water it will lend a slip and slide entertainment factor to the game. From what I've seen, Sakon Nakhon FC should have a duck as it's mascot, the team seems to do much better when the field is wet and muddy.
Ubon is the 1- punch. The 2 punch comes the following weekend when Sakon Nakhon FC travels to Udon, the number two team in the league. The next chance for a win or a draw will come August 23 in Nong Khai.

Rainy season may end earlier than normal
View from above early this morning, weather was moving west, so we should see a mostly sunny day today.
The long range forecast indicates that the rainy season could end early this year at the end of August. With mostly clear skies in September, the local tourism season could start a month earlier this year.
Reservoirs in Eastern Thailand have been overflowing causing flooding
