Sakon FC host Roiet FC this Wednesday, March 18, 4 pm at the Sakon Nakhon Stadium on Airport Road

My outlook regarding the Sakon Nakhon Muang Thai football players is in the process of making a big U-turn.  I am no longer pessimistic.  The renovated line-up has worked miracles.
The team recently defeated number 10 Surin City 2:1 in a home game and walked away with a 0:0 draw against Khon Kaen FC rated number 5 in the league.
This Wednesday  RoiEt is coming to town.  They are number 11 in the league, having just been defeated by Surin City 1:4.
Win, draw or lose, this game promises to be a thrilling one

Fan the Fans

Khon Kaen football fans are kept cool with evaporative fans above the stadium seating area.

Powerful fans with an overhanging small water hose,
connected to a (low pressure) water pump, created a cooling overhead mist.

The mist evaporated, no-one got wet, just cooled.

The mist could be seen over the entire playing field

Evaporative (swamp fans) are most effective in hot dry climates.
Ineffective during the rainy season when humidity is high.

Roadside Diner
Pork steak with salad and 2 pieces of toast 80 Baht.
OK: The pork steak was what I would call half sized, and so was the salad.  But it was enough for a brunch.
Customers were handed a blank checklist and pencil.  The checklist listed menu and prices.
Customers would check off the menu item they wanted and handed the slip to the waiter.  No foreigner pricing !
Family run business:  Teenager was the waiter and packaged takeout orders. Takeout was constant.  Dad was the grillmaster, while mom did the prep-work, attended to inventory and kept everyone organized.
The gray haired gentleman on the  motorbike pointed out to the waiter that the 'fallang'  had left a tip.  A unison 'Thank You" from the family as I went on my waylakhon

That time of the year in Thailand: Burning season

But wait, it's not just common practice in Thailand.  It's common practice with the majority of rice cultivations around the world.  Definitely most cost effective.  Plowing the rice straw under is not a good alternative.  The stuff does not decompose quickly, and when it does it emits methane gas.
Alternatives are still being pondered with considerations to insure that rice does not become a luxury item.

Hot days delayed

The expected unseasonably hot days forecast for next week have been delayed by a couple of days.  I'm not complaining

In recent days some folk in the area have experienced rain, while others have not.
At my house I have seen maybe a minute of light rain during the past four days, while two miles away, wet roads and puddles.
Continued partial cloudy.  Wed-Thur-Fri likely 40C (104F)

Nothing much going on in the outer atmosphere ...

... while far south Tropical Cyclone Pam
