Bangkok Chaos

Heavy rain and flooding in Bangkok is making the headlines in newspapers and on social media.  It's not the first time Bangkok is flooded, it's a recurring event creating misery.  It's not going to get any better.  Bangkok is sinking 3 centimeters a year .

Oh don't get excited, it's just a red light

If the statistics are accurate, then half of all accidents happen in Bangkok, while the other half accidents happen in the rest of Thailand.  Must be a lot of minor fender benders in Bangkok. When it comes to deaths, injuries, and damage totals, the provinces outnumber Bangkok by a huge majority.    Comparing statistics available for fatalities per 100,000 population, Thailand was ranked second in 2008, fourth in 2010.  But if you look at those same statistics in 2010, fatalities per 100,000 motor vehicles Thailand' ranking drops down to 89th place. Source  Any way you look at it driving in Thailand is dangerous to your health. Dogs, cats and cows have equal rights to the roads. Many drivers are multitasking, let's consider daydreaming a task.    Hazardous encounters are a daily occurrence.  Just yesterday, after dusk, on an unlit road I narrowly avoided branches on the road.  The almost invisible branches were a highway warning signal for a broke down semi-truck which was not visible in the darkness unless you stood next to it. Thailand to Scrap Nationwide Minimum Wage The proposal is to return to provincial minimum wages, some provinces with higher, others with lower minimum wages. Update:  Posted this article two days ago.  Apparently there have been a number of misunderstandings. The present minimum 300 baht minimum wage is not expected to be lowered, but future increases will be based on cost of living of individual provinces and not applied nation wide

The Football Omen

Album 150607 Sisaket at Sakon fc Sakon Nakhon made a goal early in the game. No score. Ruled off sides.  The regular Sakon Goalkeeper was sitting in the bleachers "barred." His replacement on the field, very promising. Actually the whole lineup did a very respectable job on the field.  "They had a lot of bad luck," according to one fan Goal kicking needs a bit of attention at practice. I counted over half a dozen goal attempts, all of which were headed toward the clouds, too high. There was an OMEN before the game (a phenomenon that is believed to foretell the future) . Notice the teams are not facing each other. Sisaket is standing on grass while Sakon Nakhon Players are sinking in clay The game was fast paced and exciting. Had not heard much cheering at Sakon Nakhon Football games in a while.  This game there was plenty of local fan cheering and a few catcalls expressing dissatisfaction. Sakon Nakhon required two injury replacements. Neither event deserved a card according to the referee.
