They are sacred and are generally covered with gold leaf. There's always nine of them and one is larger than the rest. Some sort of prayer beads? See them in many temples. So what's the purpose? Tried googling but keep getting the rules for 9 ball pool |

Legalize and supervise
Although sex tourism is outlawed in many countries, it continues to grow. "Over a billion served per year" Totally outlawing prostitution seems impractical. You simply create more criminals and unemployed Registered, licensed and overseen, it's possible to control drugs, diseases and wipe out child sex prostitution. Of course it requires better oversight, that's why there is a registration fee.
As of 2014 Thailand was still considered #1 in the industry

Sakon Nakhon 7 3 7 win draw loose
Sakon Nakhon Sunday, July 17, 2016
A couple hot days followed by a few rainy days
Sakon FC at Surin FC 1 - 1
Next Sakon Nakhon hosts Roi Et. Sakon FC beat them 3 -1 on their own turf April 30. Sakon FC also beat Roi Et on February 7, but the season was suspended and restarted, so that game is not on any scoreboard Roi Et will be looking for revenge. Both teams are fairly equally matched Of the eight Sakon Nakhon home games there were six wins, one draw and one loss. The other six losses were all away games |

We were great friends
Thai tradition commands that each house must be feng shui. No bed near a window, don’t let a mirror face your bed, the toilet must not face the toilet door. This particular day he was fuming mad when I arrived. He wanted a toilet installed in a tiny room for the upstairs guests. Well, the Thais did it according to feng shui. The door opened just wide enough for a skinny person to squeeze through sideways. No chance that Colin could ever use that toilet. The door hit against the toilet. Toilets are not bolted down, they are cemented in place. The only way to take the toilet out was to demolish the toilet and cement. Of course you have to buy a new toilet and cement. I told him then, and a few other occasions,: "don't get so excited, it's not good for your health, get used to the Thai way." Colin had years of cooking experience, his skills were superb. He also had people skills. Each time Colin came to town, he always stopped by my house with a gift, be it licorice, seeds or a small appliance. Without fail. Over the years I had a few of my birthday parties at his restaurant. When I borrowed something from him, he delivered and picked it up. He was a bit of a dreamer, some of his plans for the future seemed unlikely. Thanks for the great memories. |

What I learned in school today
Thai education system seems to be geared to supply the tourism industry. Nothing wrong with that unless too much classroom time is used. These classes generally culminate in what's been explained to me as 'sport day.' I do enjoy sport days. Usually start with a parade with a variety of sport and entertainment competition |
