Ding Dong Place is having a rib BBQ and coleslaw luncheon starting at noon today, price 199 THB ← Temperature at 6:30 this morning. Slow warming trend this week. Expect some unusually high temperatures next week FL40 possible). Temperatures still doing the wave (up and down) till the middle of next month. Pool season begins middle of March Sakon FC had a disappointing start of the season with a 2-1 loss against Roiet. Sakon FC next hosts Yasothon United. Yasothon came away with a draw in their season opener.

Thailand has mellowed me

Fourteen years ago I arrived in Thailand and with the exception of a few hours in Laos in 2005, I have not left the country. Much has changed in all those years and I have captured many of my experiences in pictures. An average of 6,000 pictures per year. Mostly happy moments, but also some sad moments of friends passing. Plenty strange experiences, or at least I thought they were strange at the time. Rumor has it there were only about 300 farang "residing permanently in the entire province.  Don't know what the present numbers are, but I would guess over a thousand.  The city has grown tremendously, and so have prices.  During those early years you could spend 59 baht in an all you can eat restaurant. These days it's mostly 199 baht. There were no chain stores in town, in fact monthly shopping trips to Udon was almost a must.    The first farang restaurants I heard of in the city were Colin's and Ned's places which opened in 2005.  They and many other restaurants have come and gone.

Ding Dong Place

The spa (thai massage) is not yet in operation (glass doors).  Ding Dong Place is open, offering breakfast, hamburgers, and spaghetti.  Pancakes may also be added to the menu. A larger business sign is on order.  Until then drive slow so you won't miss the place.  A recognizable landmark is the tall white sign with red trim for a hardware store. There is a U-turn lane in front of Ding Dong Place.  Map coordinates 17.146392, 104.142107  The spa should be operational soon

Saturday is Makha Bucha day

The day commemorates the spontaneous gathering of 1,250 monks to hear the Buddha preach.  Thailand enforces a no alcohol sales day.  Bars and discos should be closed.  Whenever a public holiday falls on a weekend, an alternate holiday is designated.  In this case Monday is an alternate holiday, banks and public offices are closed.
