Thai Baht continues to gain

Fifteen years ago today, 17 February, 2003, the day I arrived in Sakon Nakhon, the exchange rate was 43 Baht to the dollar.  Today it's 31 Baht to the dollar.  The magic pack up and go number for me is 27.

As previously mentioned, cold season ends.  There may be another cool day or two next week, otherwise overnight temperatures should remain in the low twenties (upper 68 to 72 fahrenheit). Possible chance of rain for a day or two next week. Haven't heard of any public Chinese New Year events, as had been the case for many years in the past.  It's a bit of a surprise to me since some efforts are underway to make Sakon  Nakhon a tourist destination.

Christian 40 day abstaining begins today

February 14 Valentine's day  Ash wednesday, start of Lent (commemorating the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert Forty days from now is  April Fools day and Easter Sunday.  Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs after the vernal equinox (March 20). I'll continue to abstain all smoking.  Started that the day before Christmas.  I must confess I had one toke from someone else's cigarette. Found no pleasure in it, but still occasionally want to reach for a cigarette (which is not there) out of habit.  One thing is for sure, I don't need suspenders for my trousers.

No one has died from an overdose

Saw parts of the CNN produced documentary 'Weed," part 1 on TV. It discussed the pros and cons, the fears and hopes without apparent prejudices.  

Seems pot can cause irreversible brain damage to the young and should require a legal consumption age similarly to alcohol laws, age 21.

Most interesting to me were the health benefits claims. It's not the THC affecting startling results. There are 483 known chemical compounds in cannabis with benefits discovered in the treatment of  acne, ADD, anxiety, arthritis, cancer, chronic pain, depression, diabetes, Dravet syndrome, epilepsy, glaucoma, Huntington’s Disease, inflammation, mood disorders, multiple sclerosis, neuropathic pain, Parkinson’s, schizophrenia, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.CBD has also been shown to stop the spread of cancer cells.

The regular user is better able to control his behavior than the occasional user.
