Ten Baht down

The difference of the value of the US$ in Thai Baht since January 2003
If you look at the past three weeks the dollar has made some gains

Compare those gains to the past it's not impressive

Comparative loss 2003 to 2018
$1 = 10 baht
$1,000 = 10,000 Baht

Keeping cool at less than half the cost

Last year some of my electric bills ran nearly 6,000 Baht. Based on last year's exchange rate that was US$200 per month. I do run a pool pump for an hour most days, but it does not account for the high electric usage. The pool pump uses 550 watt, the air conditioner uses 4,000 watt on it's high settings.  Instead of keeping the whole house cool, I decided to use the air con in only one room.
Besides cooling a room down, air cons suck the humidity out of the air.  I've discovered setting the air con to 28 to 30 degrees (C) and turning an overhead fan on is just as efficient and a lot less expensive.
Running the air con  and fan almost continuously, and using other appliances as usual (daily hot shower, weekly laundry etc), my electric bill is now an average of 2,000 baht per month. That's roughly US$60

Thailand news is the lead story all over the world at the moment

Weather: No flooding in the foreseeable future. Occasional scattered showers. I'd say 'unusually dry July.'
Thailand has been the lead story on many news programs since yesterday, when the boys were discovered in  a flooded cave.  Authorities are weighing their options, even considering a lengthy underground stay.  It's a continuing developing story. A telephone cable has been laid with emphasis for parents to be able to talk to their sons.
Plenty rumors are flying, some probably unrealistic, but hey, this is Thailand.
  • Rescuers must apply for work permits
  • The coach may be charged with criminal endangerment
I did mention these are rumors

Observed this place from my house for some time. It's a hot pot type restaurant and the food is quite good

Sakon FC next travels to Surin this Sunday, 8 June.  Had considered seeing the game in person. Five to six hour drive is a bit too much with the prospect of winning not great. No commercial airport in Surin, flying and driving would also add up to half a day's travel.
So I'm hoping for a live feed next Sunday afternoon

Much has changed in the city while the military base outside of town has been walled in, walls at the local temple have been removed changing the atmosphere considerably

Rescue effort underway

At 10:30 Monday evening the announcement was made that the team and coach have been found, discovered by British volunteers.  Copies of this video have been viewed by over 10 million people  during the first 10 hours.

I personally thought that the rescue efforts were a bit slow during the initial days, then turned into a bit of a media circus

No big surprise here, in fact I had anticipated a high scoring win.
Ubon B is a newly formed team starting out this year with only one win to date.

Until this win, Sakon FC pretty much sat in the basement, 12th of 14 in the league.
Sakon FC next travels to Surin on 8 July. Surin City is second in the league, a Sakon win would be a total shocker. A home game on 15 July with Surin Sugar should be a win
Only three more home games this season
