Hey buddy can I borrow 68 Billion (US$)

Thailand infrastructure loan bill passes first reading

Opinion!
Improvement of water reservoirs, waterway construction, flood diversion (capture) projects, dredging and the like, should received higher priority than high speed trains and super highways
A long history of floods and droughts should be a lesson of worse yet to come.

Scattered Thunderstorms

Locally generated thunderstorms here and there, next three days.
Scattered light rain at times.

Just in time for Easter

wikipedia In 1988 a radiocarbon dating test was performed on small samples of the shroud. The laboratories at the University of Oxford, the University of Arizona, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, concurred that the samples they tested dated from the Middle Ages, between 1260 and 1390.

Don't turn on your phone...

... if it gets wet during Songkran.

We have the tendency to turn it on to see if it still works.
DON'T DO IT!! You only exasperate the problem.
Immediately remove the battery and place your phone in fresh, plain rice.
Unlike the suggestion in the video of 24 hours,  I'd double that time (48 hours).  Unfold the phone and remove all removable covers

Gone squirrel watching

Alvin has been residing in my home office almost three years (May 2010).
He resides in a birdhouse inside his cage.
His house is filled with pillow stuffing and towels.

Photo Photo

He regularly gets to spend time outside his cage

Photo Photo

He has learned what he's allowed to chew (cement- wooden furniture)
and what not to chew (electric cords).

Photo

The call went out for a companion.
Early last month, squirrel in the box arrived.
Twice the size of Alvin, and probably twice as old.
A meeting between the two didn't go well.
Boxy Lady needed her own cage.
I'd considered releasing her.
That decision was put on hold when I heard squeaks from her box.
Last week I had three tiny squirrels scurrying about.
I had to enclose the cage with a smaller mesh.
I'm watching them through a monitor.
They're still quite shy around humans
Photo

Hopefully there's a female in the litter.
Once they're able to survive on their own (three months) I plan to set all but one free.
Squirrels reach sexual maturity at eight to eleven months

How big is your Bathtub?

The Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee met Monday to
consider a ban on the sale of alcohol during the Songkran holiday period.
Instead of a nationwide ban, nearly impossible to enforce in my opinion, the decision was made to declare specific areas alcohol free areas.

Haven't seen any postings of local restrictions Yet!  Will post as information becomes available!

More than 100 Australians died in Thailand...
...largely due to illness or accident...

Interesting read.
Some of the points made apply to travelers from other nations as well

Sakon FC HOT

"Where in the hell is the scoreboard."

I was looking at it's regular location.
Obviously I need new glasses.
32 minutes into the game I finally spotted it:

New Scoreboard, with lights.
Photo

Two early goals by Sakon FC did not count. Ruled "Off Sides."
The second call was a bad call according to the heckling from the spectators.

For a while it seemed like "Referee Amateur Hour."
One particular moment I was anticipating a fisticuff.

The matter was settled amicably.

Attendance at the game was sparse during the first half.

  • Game time had been changed from 5 pm to 4 pm (AGAIN).
  • Few knew.

At halftime the stands were starting to fill

A larger audience, more cheers...
Both teams came alive during the second half,
as if they had a double helping of energy.

Or was it a planetary realignment

Whatever the cause, the result was a fast action game rivaling pro game action

The fact that Sakon FC won a home game lifted local spirits.
Sakon FC has risen from 13th (of 16) in the league, to the single digit. (to be determined later today)

Not enough rain to end drought conditions

Street  drainage after the rain
The weatherman said expect heavy rains, I yawned.

Two recent weather systems pasted us by:

One north of THE CITY a day ago.
The center of the latest storm was quite south of THE CITY.
Obviously cooler temperatures yesterday evening.
In the early morning hours, plenty of thunder in the distance, then a short rain-spell.

Slight chance of a scattered shower continues for a few days

If you're watching Sakon FC host Loi City on Sunday, it's gonna be HOT.
Well above the 30 year average of 35 C. The nights are getting warmer too.

Historically in Sakon Nakhon it rains at least on one day of the three day Songkran Festival (13-15).
Expect no exception this year.
