Sunday evening in Ubon the temperatures dropped quickly with a pleasant breeze, caused by a storm in the distance with lightning and thunder on the horizon.

Sakon Nakhon FC:

A day of a Snowflake in Hell

It was predestined that Sakon FC would not be winning against the number one team in the league.
It was more a matter of how bad the beating would be.
Earlier this year Udon trashed the number two team in the league, Nakhon Phanom 10-1.

What is even more noteworthy is that Ubon has not always been number one.

Sakon FC did their best, which made for an exciting game from start to finish.
By halftime Ubon had already 4 goals to their credit.
The scoreboard clock was not set correctly.
The game started at 6:09 pm.

         6:11 pm                       6:30 pm                       6:50 pm                    6:56 pm

       7:32 pm                      7:34 pm                      7:51 pm

Sakon Nakhon next hosts Sisaket on May 4. Game starts at 4 pm
With eight games played, Sisaket has won 3, lost 3, and had 2 draws.
If I were an oddsmaker, I'd say 50-50

Sakon Nakhon FC at Ubon UMT FC

The Sakon Nakhon Team and staff departed early Saturday morning on a 385 km (240 mile) bus journey to Ubon Ratchathani.  They arrived at their destination mid afternoon, according to a text message from one of the players.

You've most likely heard of the Saying:

Chance of a Snowflake in Hell

That's the chance Sakon Nakhon has of winning this meet.
Ubon UMT FC is number one in the league, winning all seven of it's games this season.
Sakon Nakhon FC is 13th in the league of 14 teams.

It seems Sakon Nakhon FC is in a rebuilding mode, and even though their standings aren't memorable, they put on an exciting performance.

Let's not forget there have been a number of very bad referee decisions at the expense of the team this season.

I expect some exciting game action in Ubon this evening starting at 6 pm.

Chances of some winning games in May are much improved.  It's an uphill battle.

Next Thai election disruptions likely

The calm before the verdict

There's been somewhat of a political lull since the beginning of Songkran.
Sort of a calm before the storm.
The court decision will change all that.
Whether it's this week or next. No matter what the verdict, there will be plenty of Thais upset.
Upset enough for new protests and demonstrations, at least that's how I see it.

Amazing Act

It's the economy, stupid

I noticed a decline in the Thai economy during the recent Songkran celebrations.
Not as many participants as in previous years here in the city.
Less people seem to have the money for the ritualistic travel home for Songkran.

Media are still forecasting a recession ahead.  In reality it arrived some months ago.
Local business noted a downturn as early as last December.

Rice, Rubber and Sugar are in oversupply.  The local construction boom seems to be slowing just slightly.

Thais seem to be a bit on edge.  One article put the blame on worries over the job market.  I bet it has all to do with the Red and Yellow shenanigans.
