Whenever those folk at the Sabannga Restaurant have a family reunion, they spend one day of their reunion at one of the poorer schools in the area.
It takes days of preparations. Family trucks are loaded with presents, hot meals, boxes of assorted foodstuff, including ice cream and after lunch snacks.
The Sabannga Restaurant specializes in Isaan, Thai, and Chinese dishes. It is located on Ratthaphattana Road
Come take a trip with me
down Sakon Nakhon Memory Lane
I'm in the continuing process of sorting my photo's and uploading them for public viewing. Almost finished with the SBAC albums.
Sakon City becomes the starting point of his Isaan adventures

EXPO shopping center remodeling underway
The roof overhang is being replaced with a wider one. I suspect it's to accommodate covered parking. Unfortunately this may add further to the traffic congestion in that street.
Remodeling is also going on at the south end of the EXPO shopping mall.
A once popular shopping mall is quite a bit less hectic
The main store offers name rand upscale clothing.
My pool should be filled next week
Earlier this month...
weather systems borne in the Philippine Sea (1) headed north (2).
Heavy rain late Saturday afternoon and evening turned out not to have been all that much. I was in Udon at the time.
The pool was 1/3 full prior to the rain.
The pool is now half full.
Yesterday's prolonged drizzle added nothing noticeable. Warming temperatures over the weekend ahead.
I suspect it will be next week before the pool is finally filled.
Pool Filter cleaning
My back was severely inflamed. I indulged in some pain medicine
Once medicated I disablement and cleaned the pool filter system.
After that workout I had to lay down, my back demanded it.
Today is Puzzle day: reassembling the filter. I suspect I'll be doing that more than once till I get it right.
Shopping at the the BIG stores not necessarily ideal
Kitchen sink went on the fritz.
Repairs required a new gasket and a screw.
Spend some time at Globe and Home Pro.
Parts not available.
Best they could offer was to buy new.
New parts would not fit on my sink.
Best they could offer: Buy new sink and faucet 10,000 Baht.
Local hardware store, in existence for decades, had the parts. Under 100 Baht
My favorite concoction, German brandy, found it in Udon, most likely can order locally. From the recent overnight trip to Udon Thani I have severe back inflammation. I'm taking my medicine one shot at a time
Employed at this company from 1979 to 2002 One day I wrote 'Sawasde' and 'Guten Tag' on a trailer bound for Los Angeles. The trailer came back a week later with the Thai script
Sakon FC defeats Udon FC 1-0.
It has to be the upset of the season.
At game time the Udon Team was #2 in the league, while Sakon occupied 'last place.'
The game was scoreless almost to the end. Udon had plenty of near misses.
Sakon defense was at it's best.
It looked like the game was ending in a draw, then just moments before the end of the game, the unexpected...

Alcohol banned at Udon Stadium
Beer was sold at the entrance to the stadium and had to be consumed outside the stadium.
The reason given was that a fight had broken out during a previous game in Udon, in which alcohol seemed to play a major role.
There was plenty of extra security on hand to prevent a recurrence of disorder.
It was disappointing to have to miss the action just to enjoy a cool one.
The rules were bent slightly: Farang can use paper cup.
On the subject of alcohol...
...there's a totally senseless new rule being enforced in Udon.
Most likely this may have nationwide implications.
Udon restaurants must now observe the same no alcohol sales hours as stores.
You can have a beer with your lunch, but from 2pm to 5pm, you just have to do without.
From the looks of things this applies to restaurants, but not bars.
While large coffee mugs are being served at one restaurant, the bar next door can serve bottles.
Apparently if restaurants purchase liquor licenses, then no problem
Alcohol sales restriction hours were enacted to curb teenage drinking. I don't see the desired effect.
Nearly 6,000 liters (1,585 gallons) drained from my rainwater tanks.
The pool is nearly 1/3 filled. I need 12,000 liters more
This year we haven't had any of those heavy rains which would fill my pool in under half an hour.
From the looks of things, mother nature is not in any hurry to help.
May have to turn on the city taps.
Sakon FC at Udon FC 5 PM
I hear tell (rumor): Up to ten players are considered for replacement.
Death by Laukau, (Whiskey White)
Videos and pictures of recent fatal accidents always seem to involve a bottle of this stuff. Example at sakondaily

Thailand Got Talent video over 1 million views
in five days
Thailand's culture minister was outraged by the recent topless painting contestant on the televised show Thailand got Talent.
When I first heard of the incident, and saw the censored video, I was shocked,
The censored nudity wasn't what shocked me, it was the supposed artwork.
I've seen better 'art' painted by elephants.
Latest online reports indicate that the young lady wasn't a real contestant.
According to the online reports, the whole thing was planned to increase the show's ratings
Rainy season, where's the rain?
Since June 7, we have had three rain days producing 71.2 mm (2.81inches) of rain.
Not the usual rainy season.
Thailand's Meteorological Department posted a warning on June 19 Warning: Heavy rain, flash floods... possible in Sakon Nakhon There was a strong weather system which seemed to head this way from China. It fizzled out. Sakon Nakhon only experienced cloudy skies, cool temperatures and wind gusts.
Chance of rain should increase somewhat over the next seven days.
There's local talk that we will experience a shortened rainy season this year, ending in July.
It's too early to say that with certainty as far as I'm concerned. I'm keeping an eye on the weather developing in the South China Sea.
Mr. Francois Max Adair, hailed the godfather of Ponyangkham beef, was found dead Tuesday afternoon in his home.
Mr Francois, as he was known by locals, was 65 and had been suffering from sclerosis.
I had seen Mister Francois in March of 2007. At that time he seemed quite frail and needed assistance while walking. Mr Francois Max Adair arrived in Sakon Nakhon in the mid 1970's. Through insemination of local cattle with French cattle semen, he created Thailand's connoisseur beef. He became a shareholder of Thai-French Beef. ..
