Mobile Air Conditioning

Renting a house or apartment and the air conditioner is in the wrong room.  Installing a fixed air conditioner can be quite expensive. Most landlords won't let you take it with you when you moved.  It's considered a permanent fixture.

A mobile unit might be suited for you.  It's heat exhaust requires that it be placed near a window.  A water bucket (not furnished) is required to catch the condensation.  It's on wheels for easy moving.

The one I have is a 15,000 THB unit.
There are less and more expensive conditioners available

I'm quite happy with the unit.

I've tried swamp coolers with limited success. The effect is very minimal in high humidity

Come rain or shine Sakon FC must win

With half the weekend games played, Sakon Nakhon FC slipped to tenth place. A win against visitor Nakhon Phanom could put us back into eighth. Nakhon Phanom has only won one game all season.
I'm hoping for a high scoring Sakon FC win.
The likelihood of rain during the game is real.  Some forecasters claim 'before and after the game,'' others are calling "rain chance any time."
As anyone associated with a noise making device is relegated to sit at the uncovered seating. First time I got thoroughly soaked, second time I got extremely suntanned arms.  I asked a friend to purchase a shelter which can be assembled and disassembled in 10 minutes. This is what I got.
I did not completely assemble the tent here. Alone it took me 20 minutes.  I'm hoping to have four helpers assisting

The Baht continues to gain in strength

Watch out for heavy thunderstorms Sunday evening (accuweather)

The rain we are experiencing at the moment began in tropical style (heavy) around 4am. Born in the center of eastern Thailand, around Chaiyaphum / Roiet, the system is still expanding

Sunday Monday
Bug 85% (pm) Day 80%
Channel 90%  90%
wunder 21 mm 21 mm
BBC Thundery Heavy Rainshower
rp 25 mm 34 mm
accu 22 mm (pm) 10 mm(pm)

No official local flood advisory as of early this morning.  Unless there are some breaks in the steady rain, expect some drainage systems to overflow.
Suspected earlier this year that the rainy season would get a late start. This might be it

Worth looking at

A printed version of this brochure was available some years ago.
I remember local expat and hotel staff were involved in the writing and proofreading

As of now still unannounced dates for October festival

I've been traveling to Nong Sa at Ban Lao Po Daeng each year for their boat races since 2003.  They generally have their boat races and festival the week before Sakon City has the Royal Longboat Races and Wax Castle Festival.
I was hoping to see some posters announcing the dates, but no luck, probably still at the printers.  I'll try again in a few weeks.
What was apparent was that we've not had all that much rain during this year's rainy season

Nong Sa at Ban Lao Po Daeng is 14 km from Sakon City

Chance of local earthquake minimal, but...

... a large number of dams in China and Laos could have local devastating effects if struck by an earthquake
With the recent major earthquakes in Italy and Myanmar, it's time to review local concerns. The majority of fault lines are in Northern Thailand.
I had previously seen maps indicating a minor fault line in the Mekong river basin northeast of us. Unfortunately I am unable to find them at this time.

Use ATM at your own risk

    Banking
an article at Thai PBS mentions "There are about 10,000 ATMs in service in Thailand.. "
conclusion: all ATMs in Thailand are susceptible. You may not be insured for losses.
