Tha Rae Starlight Parade

The first starlight parade I saw was in 2006.  Never heard of such a parade the previous three years.  In 2006 it was mostly pickups and trucks with generators and lighted stars, not the elaborate floats of recent years.

During those early years I had only heard of the Starlight parades in Sakon Nakhon City.  It was a few years later when I heard and attended the festivities in Tha Rae.

Seems to me there was talk of the main event should belong to the catholic town  Tha Rae.

In 2007 I rode atop the lead (police) vehicle throwing candy at onlookers.  I had noticed the previous year no one was throwing candy, so I bought 10 large bags of candy.  I had previously written about that story:

Traffic last night was heavy. Saw a four car rear end collision on the way going there, and what appeared to be an accident scene on the way home.

Christmas festival at Tha Rae

Have not attended any events in Tha Rae this season, 

With heavy traffic expected, 

I'm not in the mood to drive my motorcycle at night.

Also not comfortable wearing a mask for any lengthy time.  May attend the local parade Saturday

Sign of the times

It was always a bit of a joke to me: 

Half of the Thai population is doing the cooking, while the other half is deciding where to eat next.

During better times that was not a problem. 

These days more restaurants and street food stands have popped up as other employment becomes sparse.

There are some families who had their food carts collects spider webs, but they kept them close by in case of unemployment.  

Many of these carts show up at fairs, more frequently they are on many sidewalks

Easing into the new norm

Restrictions have been eased allowing restaurants to serve alcohol till 11 pm.
