Sakon defeated in Korat 2 - 0

Expected the outcome.
Look at the Korat stadium, top rated facilities compared to many facilities throughout Isarn.
We listened to a live broadcast of the game over the internet.
Unfortunately the reception of the broadcast sounded as if the transmission was done  through an
overseas server.  Sounded more like the old shortwave radio receptions in the 1960's.
 You could hear the waves.

Some of the friendliest and most loyal people I've ever met.

the hassells Recently posted their 2006 Family Holiday Thailand videos,
filmed at Bahn Nom Hom, SakonNakhon
It depicts local rural life

A Gentleman named Jim recently commented about my Picasa Web Albums:

"I was with the 809th Engineer Battalion at Camp Ruam Chit Chai just outside Sakon Nakhon in 1970. Have you ever heard of that facility? Have you ever been by that location? Do any of the buildings etc. still exist? Your pictures triggered memories of the time I enjoyed in Thailand.
Some of the friendliest and most loyal people I've ever met.
After all these years, I wonder what has happened...."

I'll have to ask around and see what I can discover.

Reminiscence -  July 5th 1975.
Me driving South on I-5 in Seattle.
That's the Seattle U-District in the background.  That stretch of the freeway had been completed in time for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, otherwise known as Century 21.
I'm driving an Italian made VESPA, the only transportation I could afford.  The best part was I could cruise around for a week on a dollar of gasoline.
These days, at times,  I can be seen in similar posture on my 2010 Nouvo for 100 baht per week.  I could afford a car, but don't care to.

This took place at a drugstore adjacent to the bus terminal on June 24 at 2 p.m.
I first heard of the incident through an e-mail:

Keep Galoshes at ready

With the present drought slightly waning, I suspect when the rains do start,  it's going to be very heavy.
I base my conjecture on previous experiences.
A few years ago when we did have flooding in the area, it was preceded by heavy flooding north of us in Southern China and West of us in Myanmar

A number of recent articles  seem to confirm my suspicion,  "be prepared for heavy rain and flooding in September and October."

A three month forecast is available at Thai Meteorological Department

New Student Introduction

"Skool Partey"

At S.-B.A.C. SakonNakhon Business Administration College
Why was I invited to arrive at 9 a.m., when they knew that the main entourage would not make an entrance any earlier than 10:30.
I entertained myself by briefly watching student rehearsals and makeup sessions.  I snuck out the front gate to have a smoke and kept myself well hydrated with a two cups of coconut juice from my refrigerator.  It's the coconut juice with preservative: Sangsom.

I was invited to return in the afternoon when a ladyboy contest would be featured.
But I was just not interested in making the trip twice in one day.

Temporary Billboards - Weather Vane

I pass by these billboards, south of BIG-C, almost daily.
Quite often I see labor crews repairing and re-erecting collapsed signs.
The billboards are great wind direction indicators; Weather Vanes.

They seem to provide employment for up to half a dozen laborers on a regular basis,
especially as we enter the rainy season with frequent wind gusts.

Screw hole cover thefts continue.

HOTMAIL SPAM increases

As of lately I am receiving an increased number of SPAM from friends with hotmail accounts.
These are legitimate hotmail users, whose accounts are obviously compromised.
Mails I receive from half a dozen accounts all have links to VIAGRA sales sites (I don't need the stuff).

A net search of recent postings seems to confirm that the problem has been recognized...
... however the problem has not been rectified, spamming continues.
Spammers have access to complete mailing lists for each compromised account.

In many instances persons have been locked out from using their own accounts.
To reestablish ownership of your mail account you must contact your mail provider and go through a security questionnaire, or two or three.

It's a good idea to change your password and security questions on a regular basis, every three to six months seems to be most recommended.

Change all your passwords at any sign of problems.
It was probably my own error, but I was recently locked out from my online banking service.
A few mails with security questions answered, my account was restored.
Of course I recognized the warning signs and immediately made changes to other accounts.

It may also be a good idea to have an email account with an alternate provider.
I find it helpful when trying to recover lost passwords.

A nearby neighbor of the Welcome Bar is a car stereo and sound installer.
Here they are testing an exterior sound system installation.

Seems to me, with tourism slow, drivers are looking at advertising as a temporary income alternative.

Alvin Diaries

The buttons covering screw holes on my bookcase mysteriously disappeared.
I found them on the top shelf and replaced them.
Moments later, the buttons again had been removed and placed on the top shelf.

I suppose I qualify for a Stupid Fallang Award.
I recently asked a friend to purchase a new bucket to replace the one which had sprung a leak.
I expressed my anger why the person had spent extra money for a lid: "I have no use for the lid."
Of course a lid makes perfect sense in this environment.

SakonFC beats SurinFC, at a price

The game started at 6 p.m., and not at 5, as I had been informed.
As predicted it was one of Sakon FC better days.

 6:18 p.m.                                    6:26 p.m.                                      6:31 p.m.

All scoring was during the first half of the game.
During the second half I lost count after 12 injury time outs for Sakon FC.
Made me wonder why Surin only received one yellow card

Prevention

Seeing Helicopters in this area most likely indicates a visit of a Government V.I.P.
There is no commercial helicopter service in the area that I am aware of.

Photo taken from Welcome Bar front porch, June 9

I was intrigued and took the quick trip to the Provincial Government Buildings.

By the time I arrived, V.I.P.'s had already departed

What surprised me was the barbed wire inside the Government complex.
This is the area used during the annual Wax Castle Festival as a fair ground

Car traffic on the main road leading through the complex had been detoured. I use this road occasionally on my way to go shopping.

Mobile Mosquito Eradication

Had to make a stop on my way home, till the air was clear.
Lucky I had a can of Chang with me while sitting alongside the road.

Really wonder how effective this sort of spraying is.
Butterflies did not seem to be bothered by the spray.

In previous years people with backpack sprayers used to come around and aim the spray at all the most likely spots, especially sewers.

The sprayer looks fairly new, but the truck, that's another story.

SakonFC preparing for the Surin Challenge

In a previous game on April 3 at Surin, the game ended in a 3 - 3 draw.
Now with recent player additions and with home court advantage, this should be an exiting game.
Let's hope both teams can avoid my comment of the April 3 game: Who threw the first punch?

Joey went to see one of the teams daily training sessions and brought back these pictures.

Another Tabaco Addict  in the house. And he doesn't require matches,

Be security concious before you go to sleep

Like anywhere in the world, when unemployment drops, crime tends to  increase.
Yesterday the owner of the apartment building across the street from me alerted us of a night time theft.
Gasoline was siphoned from the motorcycles parked in front of the building, laundry hanging outdoors was taken.

Neighborhood dogs, including mine, where barking at 3 a.m.  I saw four young men walking toward the apartment building.  I concluded wrongly that they were visiting a resident, and ignored them.
We lock our front gate nightly. Neighborhood barking dogs frequently awaken me.
If you do have dogs, beware of poisoning.
Just a few years ago a number of dogs were poisoned in a nearby neighborhood on a night when burglaries also occurred.

Thailand ZOMBIE SEASON aproaches

Thailand is known for its Cool, Hot, and Wet Seasons.
Little known is the Zombie Season. It occurs once every four years, and last thirty days.
The season coincides with World Cup Soccer.

Expect Thais, especially males, to be bit sluggish and slow in both action and thought.
They might even express "Hang" to explain their hangovers.
Many games conclude well past bedtime Thai time.

SakonFC without Fans

SakonNakhon Footballers headed south on Wednesday, to Yasothon, for a make-up game which was previously rained out.

The game was  radio broadcast live at sakonfc.com/web/
There were no SakonFC fans in attendance according to a source at the scene.

A contingent of the cheering team was at my house.
Dressed in team colors, as if attending the game in person.
Joey was listening to the live radio broadcast.

And yes he was cheering, at times screeching. The free range roosters on our street ran for home in a hurry.

At first report I received the score was 1-1, then 2-1, then 3-1. The outcome was 3-2.
The absence of Sakon cheering fans was most likely a factor contribution to the loss.
