July 1 is a bank holiday in Thailand.  If you must do banking in Sakon Nakhon, most branches at Robinson are open 7 days a week.    Weather direction for the last two days has been from the northeast.    That just changed and is arriving from the South.  Most likely that will change again.  Weather from the south, southwest, the east and northeast are doing a circular dance around us.    Noticed a few drains not doing what they should be doing, expect flooding in some areas. Interesting note.  Thai Meteorology Department posts a weather report of conditions during the last 24 hours.  The report includes the amount of rain during each three hour period.  During the period this morning from 1 am to 4 am, they recorded 0 rain.  I was up at 3 am and it was raining so heavy I could have filled a bucket in half an hour.  Logically it did not rain where the department is located (about a 7 minute drive from my house.  Obviously these statistics are limited to the immediate area of the weather station and not the province

Noon  Funeral services for Kevin Dawson at Wat Sutthawat      4 pm Sakon FC hosts Udon FC  at Rajabhat University Stadium  Don't expect a Sakon win.  Udon is number one in the league.  Udon players arrived in town on Saturday and stayed at the Sakon Grand Palace Hotel.  Obviously a team with money Early afternoon rain is in the forecast. Game time may be overcast.  The heavy rain forecast later at night and especially on Monday, starting early in the morning.  Meanwhile I have again been asked to sponsor a local teen futsal team for games next month.  These games are to be held out of town, so I will be expecting a road trip or two around mid July

Earlier this week team management announced that the game was to be played at the stadium located at the airport. Rumor has it that the move was made because of high rental fees at the university stadium.   Udon management pointed out that the airport stadium was not recognized as a league stadium.   This was followed by an anouncement that the game would be cancelled.  Udon recommended to move the game to Udon. The most recent announcement on Friday evening reinstated the game at it's originally planned venue

Sunday,  June 26, 4 pm at the Airport Stadium. Unconfirmed rumor is that the venue was changed due to cost.  Rental at the University stadium is rumored to cost 20,000THB per game

Battery life of the camera allowed me to record one hour, fifteen minutes, using 1/5 of the memory capacity.  To extend recording time I bought a   BLL 18000 mAh Power Bank at a cost of 860THB.

Improved my wifi signal

I'd heard that a can would increase my wifi signal, but wasn't quite convinced. 
Both antennas are about half a foot apart. I took a knife to an empty root beer can and proved to myself that this really works.

It cured the frequent loss of signal I had previously experienced, which I suspect was caused by other electric appliances.

Drink cans seem to be well suited since you simply insert the antenna into the pouring hole.  I used the pull tab of the can to secure the can to the antenna.

CTH is a satellite/cable tv service, whose only popularity was the fact that they have (and soon had) the rights to broadcast football.

My own experience:
Service was extremely poor, especially when it came to mistakes in their bookkeeping department.
My service was cancelled due to nonpayment, even though I had receipts for all payments made.
The service was reconnected after I sent them a copy of my receipt, I spent many ulcer causing hours on the phone. The disconnection was repeated. Billing errors continued through a 6 month long frustration. No applologies ever.
Interesting to note:  

• Payments made at banks or stores take up to seven days to reach CTH.

• Remote controls are guaranteed for 12 months.  If you have a problem with your remote during that time, you can mail it to CTH for verification that it is defective.  Since the box does not function without the remote.  You have no television service during this time. Alternative is pay 350 baht for a new remote.

Sakon Nakhon Long boat races and Wax Castle Festival

Have not seen any web announcements of the dates and activities.
Generally these celebrations are held to coincide with the end of the Buddhist Lent.
This year that's Sunday, 16th October 2016.  It's a newly enforced no alcohol day.
Celebrations start October 12 with two days of longboat races. The races are started with a land and boat parade.
The Wax castle Parade is held October 15. 
The final day is a temple visiting day.
There are plenty activities every day and evening.
