Batten down the hatches

The article consists of just a few sentences with little detail
Thailand prepares for heavy rain nationwide - Pattaya Mail

I observed some heavy upper atmosphere clouds forming over the last few days in the South China Sea. I'm estimating locally the wettest days will be next week

At this time TMD has not posted any weather alerts beyond 27 June

A shift in manufacturing for better profits, less tariffs

I vaguely remember over a decade ago: manufacturing related to sewing closed shop in Thailand and moved to Vietnam.  Less than a decade ago Korean manufacturing looking for less cost also moved operations to Vietnam.

A few years ago and now there are news stories of Thai businessmen investing heavy in Vietnam.

Now with the trade war on, more Chinese businessmen are moving their operations to Vietnam.
It means job losses in China and subsequently less Chinese overseas travel.

TMD issues Weather warning 25 -27 June 2019

Thai Meteorological Department - Announcement:  "Heavy rain and the strong wind waves"
Affected areas ... :25-26 June 2019 ...  (includes) Sakon Nakhon

Locally this week
scattered thundershowers
continued heatwave feels like 38 - 40
Noticed change in weather direction yesterday.  Weather now arriving mostly from the northeast.
Past experience heavy rainy season arrives from the east to northeast.

There has not been all that much rain in the area so far this year. I would not be surprised if someone uttered the word "drought."

Smoking at home can lead to criminal charges

Baht worrysome

First chart June 4-21, 2019.  Second chart added 2 January 2019

Bangkok post puts some of the blame on the trade war, which I personally doubt.
The strong Baht is at fault.
May exports down 5.8% on trade war, baht

Opinion: A strong baht is great for Thai rich to invest in overseas ventures.

190621 do you think (new) visa regulations will affect you?

Income requirements have really not changed.
What did change is method of proof of income. For many years local embassies used to issue sworn income statements. Many of those statements were false.
The procedure now is a letter from your bank showing the deposit history. It's simpler and less expensive and harder to falsify.

The health insurance requirement is a wait and see.  It will be instituted 1 July. Some say it does not concern retirement extensions, others say it does. After 1 July there should be news stories regarding the yes or no.

The requirement is for 400,000 Baht medical insurance (roughly US$ 13,000)
So far every insurance offer has been for 1 Million $US coverage at a cost of US$3,00 per year.

I have yet to find a policy with the Thai limit required.  It should be a lot less expensive.  If I can not find that I'll make plans to return to the US..

Seeing immigration  rules updates on a frequent basis is highly unnerving.  Frequently these news stories do not tell the whole story and often are misleading. This unnerving is sufficient enough to consider packing up and move em out.

All gone within seven days

I do enjoy cooking. Not the every day kind.

At another time I used to prepare Saturdays and have a BBQ on Sunday.

Leftovers were packaged and frozen and became microwave meals during the week.
Most BBQ's did not yield many leftovers, I had help.

Here I am starting a stew with carrots, tomatoes, assorted garden greens, mushrooms, garlic. Still to come is celery cooked in coconut milk, onions, peas, potatoes and stew meat.

By that time I have to switch to a larger pot.
Of course when all is done, I am also done with lunch.

Usually freeze around ten meals. I have volunteer help in disposing of these meals within a week.

190617 Sakon Nakhon FC timeline

Had been toying with the idea of creating a blog of the local football team. Web pages for the team have come and gone.  Rather than doing that I've decided to create a page listing all games I have photographed over the past ten years, with a link to each photo album.

Sakon Football Club since 2010

It's a lengthy endeavor. For the moment I hope to add five entries per day and will be looking for someone to expedite this project
