Improved my wifi signal

I'd heard that a can would increase my wifi signal, but wasn't quite convinced.
Both antennas are about half a foot apart. I took a knife to an empty root beer can and proved to myself that this really works.

It cured the frequent loss of signal I had previously experienced, which I suspect was caused by other electric appliances.

Drink cans seem to be well suited since you simply insert the antenna into the pouring hole.  I used the pull tab of the can to secure the can to the antenna.

It's worth checking out

Top speed test BBB
Bottom speed test STV
Ping rate is the time between sending out a request and receiving a reply

Been using BBB for nearly a decade at 845.30 Baht per month.  Recently there had been almost daily interruptions, most only a few moments, but also a couple that lasted hours in predawn hours.  The speed wasn't always what was advertised.  Recently STV added internet service to their cable service.  The TV service of 80 channels are pretty much all Thai channels.  Did come across three news channels in English, Deutsche Welle and Telemundo.  The TV service is not of interest to me since I get most of my TV over the internet.
Don't know the area covered by STV, but it seems to cover a large part of Sakon City. Obviously I will be discontinuing the slower service

There's quite a discount if you pay for 12 months at time of installation. Saved 998 Baht. Compared to BBB my yearly savings is over 5,000 Baht

Cyber Security

Internet hacking is happening all over the world.  Governments are doing it to each other.
Governments are doing it to their own population under the guise of protecting everyone.

Nothing is 100% secure on the net

Changing your passwords frequently is recommended, but even that does not insure total security.

In banking, it's important to know that you are insured against losses due to cybercrime.

Computer virus protection is essential.
There's no such thing as a free lunch, free downloads generally derive benefit in other ways.  Read the "fine print"

Facebook is the most popular online social media in Thailand

Did some reading on the subject.  My hunch seems to be correct: Facebook is the most popular social media in Thailand.

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking site being used by Thai people. Where Bangkok has been ranked top highest numbers of Facebook users in the...

My own blog's statistics somewhat reflect foreign interest, particularly in Sakon Nakhon
Interest from India in this area seems to be waning quickly.  In sixth place for nearly a year, now dropped to 17.
Korean interest seems to be climbing quickly, till recently it was below 25th.
US, UK, and Austria seem to be changing between second and fourth on a daily basis.  There seems to be some correlation to local visitor arrivals

Here's my two cents worth on the matter

Google android boxes Thailand, then select images and you are faced with a dilemma, which one

I checked out the MINIX box, as that is also the one thaiexpat TV is offering.
I have had experience with lazada and it's a good place to compare prices.
I do recommend a box with a remote control, or better with remote keyboard and mouse capabilities.

A note of caution if you install a flash player, disable the box when not in use.  Flash Player is vulnerable to hacks. Patches are issued whenever a new hole is discovered.

Google's Chrome browser has flash built in

If your browser runs slow clean out the Cookie Jar

Visitors to this blog, especially from EU countries, will notice the Cookies notification at the top of the page.
It's part of a EU law which actually came into effect back in 2011.

Personally I feel it's a bit overkill, as I anticipate every website I visit uses cookies.  Probably would have been more efficient if the websites not using cookies publish an appropriate notice.

If you are logging on from a non-EU country, you may not see this notice See Picture below).  I suspect with time it will become a worldwide phenomenon.

Depending how much daily surfing you do, you should clean your cookies on a regular frequency.
Best solution is to set your browser to delete all cookies before logging off.

Cookies which remain on your computer tend to gather information on a continuous basis and may slow down your browser

First impressions

At first glance Microsoft 10 is an upgrade of system 8. The changes - improvements do not require a lot of relearning.
