"157,257,193 views" seems a bit exaggerated, especially when you add up the views on YouTube  (I counted around 15,000 YouTube views)
I don't have all the numbers, there must have been a hell of a lot views on Facebook, Google+, Instagram, Line, TAT mobile applications

Tourists and expats required to aways
carry photo identification

It's nothing new, it's been the law for decades in Thailand:
All foreigners must carry an authorized photo identification.
Every so often immigration officials remind us of that requirement.  The latest reminder comes to us courtesy Hua Hin Immigration, as posted on Thai Visa.

Thai Drivers Licence or  your Passport are acceptable forms of identification.

In some instances laminated copies of your passport are acceptable.  The Thai Visa article indicates that "certified" copies of your passport are acceptable in Hua Hin.

This practice (laminated copies) may not be acceptable nationwide.  I recollect just a few years ago reading of a sweep of nightclubs when copies were not deemed proper identification and fines were issued.

Sakon Nakhon travel seems to be increasing

If you try to book online with Nok Air, you might be surprised that the airline is making three BKK-SNO round trips daily.
At least until October 1, when Air Asia begins two round trips daily.
After Oct 1 Nok Air only advertises one daily evening flight.

The Blah factor

It's old news now. I had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.
The surgery was performed at one of the Khoen Kean University Hospitals.
I took my time recovering in the hospital, probably because every time I felt any pain I was given morphine into my intravenous tube. Preparation, tests, operation and post care lasted two weeks and cost US $4,000.

Recently went for a follow up visit.  Drinking a can of latte before a blood pressure check was probably not appropriate, then having to wait for over three hours did drive up the anxiety factor.  I was given three medications to reduce my blood pressure.

Amazing here is the fact that during three times a day blood pressure monitoring while I was hospitalized my blood pressure was always normal.

Now at home, taking the prescribed medication I felt somewhat BLAH.  Too much time in front of the TV, no energy to do anything else.

Bought a test kit this morning which seems to confirm my suspicion:
Stop taking the medicine.
After a few days of monitoring I can probably decide the medicine is not needed, or I can limit myself to one medicine instead of three.

I'd say 93-54 is too low from a normal 120-80

2:30 pm Update: just spent half an hour scrubbing the pool room floor. BP=120-74

Rainy Season

The approaching clouds were borne overnight in Laos and seem to still growing in size while moving in a southeasterly direction
A thundershower likely  early afternoon.

Thai Meteorological Department predicts decreased rain for Friday and Saturday (40%), then increasing to 60% with the start of the new week.
Sakon Nakhon was hit the hardest during recent storms which affected five provinces in Northeast Thailand

Local Google Map updated

It's been brought to my attention that local google satellite maps were recently updated.
As an example: The highway on which Apples restaurant is located was not indicated on maps until the update

How recent the map update occurred can be noted in the image below, where the 3 story shophouse building completed in November 2013 is visible across from apples, yet the newer built cowboy restaurant across the street is still an empty field

The cowboy themed restaurant was built early this year, indicating that the local map was probably updated late last year or no later than January this year.

Say no evil, write no evil,

The National Council for Peace and Order issued an order late Friday prohibiting criticism by anyone on all forms of media against the operations of the junta and its personnel. It also asked media operators and "any other individuals" to refrain from disseminating content banned by the military government, including news and information that could create resistance against the junta.

Sakon FC wins over Mukdahan FC 2 - 0

The rain had stopped just prior to game time (4pm Saturday)
I was very tempted to attend the game,  especially since a favorite player of mine had recently returned to the team.
No rain coat and still in recovery mode I stayed home and awaited telephone score reports.
Sakon FC was ahead by 1 at halftime and won the game 2-0.  The win was to be expected with homefield advantage.
An apparently little known fact is that Sakon FC always seems to perform better during the rainy season when the field is full of water holes.
Sakon FC Next travels to Sisaket for a game there next Saturday.  Sisaket is one place above Sakon Nakhon in the Division standings.  When the two teams met locally in May, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
This can be another Sakon Nakhon win

Update: Rammasun headed West

For a while yesterday I cranked up the air conditioner looking at the bright sun outside wondered "where's the rain (and the cooler temperatures)?"

Even though wind speeds of up to 160 km/h have been reported, the storm seems to be traveling quite slow, moving at barely 20 km/h
Images from yesterday am and today am on GOOGLE EARTH, show how slow moving this storm is.

An updated weather alert at Thai Meteorological Department TMD now expects the effects of the storm over Sakon Nakhon  during July 18 and 19.

Local weather, including this early morning's rain seems to be coming from the North East (Hanoi) toward us. NOAA MTSAT gives a clear view of the direction

The center of the storm with winds up to 130 km is heading toward Hainan, while the outer edges of the storm are expected to bring heavy rains and isolated winds July 17 & 18 to Isan

By the time the storm reaches us wind speeds should have dissipated considerably, with wind gusts expected near 20 km/h

Illegal rosewood cutting on private property

Everybody in this hospital knows my name

Two days after surgery I was being served my first meal.  Up to now it was water only.
My upper dentures were nowhere to be found. Panic ensued. At least six nurses rummaged through my nightstand.  Then someone had the bright idea that they might have gone out with the morning laundry.
Nada.
The cleaning lady had seen a plastic bag on my nightstand and decided it was trash.
So everybody up and down the hallways had a good laugh about that one
