On the first day of ... The Sakon Nakhon Wax Castle Festival - early evening
 On the first day of the Wax Castle Festival, the best place to hang out is at the Municipal Grounds, especially in the early evening. It's best to park at a distance and walk in. Traffic is rerouted near the grounds, as "the Castles" are all moved to the display area.     The municipal grounds, across the street from Immigration and Police headquarters is divided in a food court, concert area, castle assembly area, and 'souvenir stalls'      It's a non-alcohol event. My favorite starting point for the evening is across the street of the fair entrance.  |

All quiet on the Sakon Nakhon Waterfront
  Water level seems higher than average for this time of the year, even though the rainy season hasn't been all that strong.   All boats seem freshly painted, all the derelicts are gone  The longboat racetrack has yet to be cleared of vegetation. Clean up should begin soon |

Simply explained its a chicken beer enema
It's called Beer Can Chicken, or Beer Butt Chicken... ... the can of beer goes in the chicken butt, after you have drunk some off the top. Spices are added to the remaining beer. Simply explained its a chicken beer enema   In accordance with Thai law, beer is served to the chicken after 5 pm It's a speciality of Colin's 'My House' restaurant, back by popular demand yesterday. I was pleasantly stuffed in a pleasant laid back atmosphere. |

Recuperating after a thrilling and adventurous day in Tao Ngoi
 The first thing upon arriving for an afternoon of festivities, was to stop off at a minimarket and buy sunscreen, sunglasses and beer. Down the street I bought the largest shade hat I could find.
Next door at the drugstore I bought eyewash and antacids.
I have plenty of these items at home, I could have packed them, I was too much in a hurry to get there. Had false information about the starting time. We were two hours early I don't mind. Had time to find an advantageous viewing place with fan and chair. Two doors down from the 7/11 and across the street from a TESCO minimarket. During the heat of the early afternoon I kept a bag of crushed ice in the dome of my hat. Organization at the event was supreme. Cops directing traffic, advising vendors if they needed to relocate. There were more than enough men in tan standing by. Some 300 pictures of the day, once cropped, enhanced, will make a nice slide video |

Tao Ngoi Opening ceremonies 'Bai Mong' Oct 26
 Posters advertise the festivities to be from October 25 through 27, but opening ceremonies are held on October 26 at 1 pm. ('Bai Mong') Only thing scheduled on the 25 is an evening concert. The barges are all under construction, with a barge parade on the evenings of 26 and 27 October.            DRIVING ALERT: I do not recommend taking highway 2358. Instead take the turnoff 14 kilometers from Sakon Nakhon.   |

The number of Tourist has doubled since records were available, I doubt the tourist revenue has doubled
It's mob tourism these days. Busloads follow their leader / guide carrying a flag to identify the group. It's a trotting walkthrough with limited time to browse and spend money. Group package tourists tend to have less spending cash and consider tipping included in their travel package.
Many sights are best experienced before the busses arrive.
When the Baht is weak, imported goods cost more
Years indicate first banking day of the year.
It's interesting to compare the value of the baht to the country's history at that time. The baht was strongest in 2011, the year the minimum wage was raised to 300 Baht. In some areas of the country it meant a 50% wage increase
