iLikeHD TV and Movie streaming service discontinued, replaced

The replacement service hdprime.tv offers some stations previously not available on iLike HD.  If you already had an iLike account your account is transferable to the new site.  570 baht per month gives you a month access to both TV and Movies.

Hotest today, no alcohol sales next wednesday

Hottest day today.  A few degrees cooler tomorrow, but not much. As the weekend approaches a bit cooler and increased chance of rain.
Today I came face to face with the person who spread false rumors about me.  I was tempted to confront him and call him an asshole.  I felt more comfortable simply turning my back at him. Just felt it was not necessary to call him an asshole, figured he knew that already
It appears USTVNow has done away with their free tv service.  I discontinued the $29 per month subscription. The only thing I watched was the evening network news. Just not worth the expense. Am investigating a number of alternatives.
True tv called asking why I discontinued their service almost a year ago.  Obviously it was cost.  I don't watch 300 or 400 channels at 2,100 baht per month. The 650 baht per month online service serves my needs.
Next Wednesday is Visakha Puja Day, a no alcohol sales day.  If you can't do without, stock up early. Of course many ma and pa shops will sell alcohol on the sly.  They need the money.

Evening US TV served up for breakfast tor brunch in Thailand

Schoener Fernsehen, a live tv streaming service, which had been free for a number of years, is now a pay service.
At 10  per year it's very reasonable. The website broadcasts mostly German programming.  Some of it's English programs can be received free or at more advantageous pay packages.
USTV NOW provides US television overseas.  A number of channels are free once you register.  Pay packages start at US$19 per month for the first three months
thaiexpat  Available in Thailand, offers UK and Australian packages starting at 600 Thai ฿
ilikehd Available in Thailand, extensive English, French, German, and Indian television. Packages start at 150 Thai ฿. Free Thai channels after registration
iflix starts at 100  per month. Free introductory month
I have used or am using these services for a number of years. Undoubtedly there are many other services which I am not familiar with. Feel free to leave a comment.

I must have missed the announcement when they changed the web address

If you've been watching  USTV NOW at
www.ustvnow.com,
you've probably gotten
Forbidden when you tried logging on. It appears that there was a name change of the website.  The new Name is  http://watch.ustvnow.com
Those not familiar with the service, it presents USA televison. Once you register, a number of channels are free, while the paid service is quite reasonable.

Schöner-fernsehen switching to pay service

The television streaming service, which had been free for a number of years apparently did not create enough advertising revenue to survive.  The service was not available most of the day on December 5, but reappeared later in the day with the notice

This station is soon chargeable!

Approximately On 06.12.2016 this station is no longer free of charge.
The Good News: 1) The following stations will continue to be free of charge: ZDF, ZDF INFO, ZDF NEO, ZDFKULTUR, ARD, ARD EINSFESTIVAL, ARD EINSPLUS, NDR, WDR, BAY3, 3SAT, MDR, SWR, HR, ONE, RBB 2)
For a monthly payment of 0.99 € then all channels are available
The price is quite reasonable, however payment is by bank transfer with a 2.00 fee.  English speakers will probably find this service less attractive, since there are only 15 english channels on this mostly German service
Some of these English channels remain free elsewhere

The CTH circus is leaving town: Good Riddance

CTH is a satellite/cable tv service, whose only popularity was the fact that they have (and soon had) the rights to broadcast football.

CTH Facebook Post June 15 at 1:25pm Translated

My own experience:
Service was extremely poor, especially when it came to mistakes in their bookkeeping department.
My service was cancelled due to nonpayment, even though I had receipts for all payments made.
The service was reconnected after I sent them a copy of my receipt, I spent many ulcer causing hours on the phone. The disconnection was repeated. Billing errors continued through a 6 month long frustration. No applologies ever.
Interesting to note:

  • Payments made at banks or stores take up to seven days to reach CTH.
  • Remote controls are guaranteed for 12 months.  If you have a problem with your remote during that time, you can mail it to CTH for verification that it is defective.  Since the box does not function without the remote.  You have no television service during this time. Alternative is pay 350 baht for a new remote.
Remedial measures sought for CTH customers nationmultimedia
"It has also been reported that CTH does not plan to renew its contract with other international broadcasting networks.."

Opinion
Satellite and cable television services are beginning to fade into oblivion, as internet-TV gains in popularity. Streaming from all parts of the globe at financially tailored choices.
Automated billing / payment does away with labor, installation and retrieval of equipment, and equipment rental fees

Schöner-fernsehen risk blocking removed

schöner-fernsehen (nice TV)
The website had recently been blocked by most web browsers due to  attached malware.  The problem appears to have been resolved.
Being totally free, "schöner-fernsehen (nice TV) " is among my favorites. I recommend downloading the player software for either pc or mobile devices.
The website appears to depend on advertisement, it request you disable any adblocker. Occasional pop ups.
Advertisement is not as intrusive in the player, no pop ups
Available are multiple US, UK,  French channels.  The majority of channels available is of course German
All TV channels at a glance  Let's you watch up to five channels at a time

Other free and reasonable pay services

USTVNOW
Thai Expat TV  only available in Thailand
iLikeHD only available in Thailand

It's worth checking out

Top speed test BBB
Bottom speed test STV
Ping rate is the time between sending out a request and receiving a reply

Been using BBB for nearly a decade at 845.30 Baht per month.  Recently there had been almost daily interruptions, most only a few moments, but also a couple that lasted hours in predawn hours.  The speed wasn't always what was advertised.  Recently STV added internet service to their cable service.  The TV service of 80 channels are pretty much all Thai channels.  Did come across three news channels in English, Deutsche Welle and Telemundo.  The TV service is not of interest to me since I get most of my TV over the internet.
Don't know the area covered by STV, but it seems to cover a large part of Sakon City. Obviously I will be discontinuing the slower service

There's quite a discount if you pay for 12 months at time of installation. Saved 998 Baht. Compared to BBB my yearly savings is over 5,000 Baht
