Red Head Season in Thailand

Attended a YFC morning game.
Appreciated the 9 am starting time, long before temperatures exceeded my comfort zone.
Victory party at my house. Twenty Pizza boats disappeared in under ten minutes. An hour later a second meal was devoured.

Penalty Shoot Out decides winner

Mister Hans Y.F.C. second best

It was a fast paced and exiting game which ended scoreless.
The team was defeated in Penalty Shoot Out
The team brought last years champion trophy to the competition.   They were the champions.

It is Hot and Humid in Sakon Nakhon

When Thais complain of the heat, then you know it's hot.
These folk are the same folk who wear insulated parkas when the temperature
  drops below 20C/68F.
At the football game I wore an ice pack around my neck to keep cool

The Humidity factor

Within four days, nearly knee deep waterholes have evaporated.

Neighborhood flooding likely with next rain.

Took a shortcut to do some shopping.
Grazing fields surrounded by residential development are flooded to street level.
Have never seen these fields flooded.
I somewhat suspect that drainage has been blocked and slowed by new construction.

Still trying to figure out what's  being built south of Big-C and Expo.
Long cement pad, another pad with seven corners and other strange patters.
Nothing yet in the center of the property.
Makes me wonder if the night market is being moved there?

Rainy Season and Hot Season Merge

Recovering the past

HLWHLL (How Long Will Hans Lenz Last)

Continuing to recover thousands of photographs from a crashed drive, I had given up as hopelessly lost.
Before retiring and moving to Thailand I worked on a trucking company loading dock (22years).
It was backbreaking work.
There were plenty of times when I considered quitting.  But I held out for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow; a teamster pension.

They were placing bets on me  ------>

Sakon Weather

Best way to explain the present and forecast weather is to say:
The Rainy Season and the Hot Season have merged.
Humidity has been high and felt like a steam bath by mid morning.
Humidity is at it's highest right around the time I'm ready to recline for the evening.
Scattered thundershowers, increased chance of rain as the weekend approaches.

This hot, humid and wet weather causing:

  1. Increased risk of gastric infections. and food poisoning.
Sakon Nakhon Hospital director warns; high-risk food poisoning this summer - ASTV online
  2. .
  3. Food supply interruptions
Recently noticed at open markets and supermarkets that onions for sale were medium to small
Warehouse full of notoriously smelly rotten onions and shallots - ASTV online

Update: (blog entry April 18)

Sakon Nakhon Stormy Weather

Most damage seems to be in poor villages were construction is on a 'financially make do' basis.

More stormy weather ahead ??

Head for the high ground !!

Had plenty of warnings that some nasty weather was heading this way.I've never experienced a massive ant invasion from all directions, as I have in past weeks. They were leaving the open fields for higher grounds.  It's as if they have a built in long range weather alert system.
Sure enough; those dry fields on the other side of my fence, where cows grazed just days ago, are now ponds.

The water levels resemble that of the rainy season July through September.  With plenty of rainfall ahead of us, I'm evicting the spiders, bugs and frogs from my wading boots.I may need them this year.
After this morning's 1am to 6 am storm, my neighbors have decided on some preemptive pruning

Other Neighbors seem to be oblivious to the pending damage

And the winner is "Mister Hans YFC'

Three games, three wins.

Victory party at my house

Attendance at the youth game was better than attendance at the recent Sakon FC game.
Sakon FC travels to Surin for a game Saturday.  No internet broadcast.
