Based on my electric bill, this year has been a bit cooler than last year...

... but May is ahead
My May electric bill last year was higher than April
I receive my electric bill on the 19th of each month, that's why you see April before it's ended

Sakon FC CAN DO

After having seen recent games I was convinced that yesterday's game was very winnable.
Even though the previous game was a draw, the Sakon Nakhon team knocked Chaiyaphum from it's third place perch.
Loei City had taken over the third position, and I expected that they too would be knocked down from their 'high horse.'
There'd been some lineup changes recently and this team is performing really good. Most noticeable to me has been the goalkeeper, he's stopped at least a dozen attempts at his goal during both the last two games.

The refereeing wasn't all that great, resulting in plenty booing.
The first half of the 2017 season ends with a road trip to Buriram.  I'm convinced the game is winnable.
Sakon Nakhon FC had been in last (12th) place and has now advanced to 9th.  I'm expecting miracles during the second half of the season.

UV Index Extreme

Forecast varies from partly cloudy (Thai MD), to heavy rainshower at 4 pm (BBC).  Indications are that any rain would be scattered. We could be getting wet, or just see the rain in the distance.
Feels like 39
Appears That Google has recently updated their imaging of the local area. Recent stadium construction appears in the image

Stay Cool on a really hot day

Yesterday driving my motorcycle in the morning I began to feel quite dizzy.  I immediately pulled over in the shade, drank some water, poured some over my head and sat down till the dizziness passed. I'm pretty sure it was heat related.
If you participated in the recent waterfest, then you know, the best way to keep cool on a hot day, get wet and stand in front of a fan (or drive a motorcycle while you are wet).
During these hot days my pool gets daily use

Pool water is starting to warm.  When it feels like a hot tub I'll be adding ice, probably later this month.  It's an at least once a year event

Misting fans bring some relief from the heat. If misting fans aren't in your future, hang a damp cloth over your fan Avoid dripping water on the motor housing.

Air conditioners can keep you cool of course, but they also take a bite out of your wallet.
Of course drink plenty of water.  Add electrolyte to your drinking habit.  If you drink alcohol or coffee, drink extra water.  Alcohol and coffee tend to dehydrate.
If you tend to faint easily, monitor your blood pressure

What's cancelled, what's not,Sakon Nakhon 2017 ?

Tourists want to know
Should we come, or not
There is a one year moratorium on many public events due to HRH's death on 13 October 2016, lasting until late October.  Royal funerals usually last seven days
Some events had been cancelled, others 'subdued.'  Most religious and sport functions are allowed.

What happens
in October in Sakon Nakhon???

The Royal Longboat Races and the Wax Castle Festival generally happen  days before the October full Moon.  This year that's October 5th.
The Royal Longboat Races are a sport activity. The Wax Castle Festival has mostly religious significance

At this time I am in search of information and hope to have some answers soon

Public activities toned down, but not the fun

The only thing toned down at this year's songkran festival were public events such as parades in many provincial capitals. Festivities went on as normal in most villages with parades and festivals, and of course roadside water throwing.

Meanwhile the road carnage seems to be slightly less than last year, but we are only into the third of seven festival days.  Statistics indicate the majority of accidents are caused by drunk driving and speeding

Equipment malfunction such as brake failure and bald tires also seems to appear quite often in the news.

Enforcing no riding in the back of pickups is not going to solve the carnage problem, it's just going to be an inconvenience for the poor wanting to go to work or to temples and school.
Statistics also indicate that the majority of accidents happen between 4 and 8 pm. This is the time when more enforcement should be on the road.  Enforcements seems to be reduced during these hours, as is apparent by motorcyclist driving without helmets after 5pm.
Confiscating vehicles from drunk drivers would quickly solve the drunk driving problem.  Speeding fines are too low to act as a deterrent.  But then that's just my opinion.
Happy Songkran

New computer

Now I have to put the brakes on my spending for a week. There's a huge difference between my old and new computer. It's like stepping out of a tuktuk into a racing car. From two to three screens.
For the first time my PC is faster than my MAC.  MAC is 2.6 ghz PC is 3.5 ghz

No Songkran Parade this year in Sakon City

So much for my tourism plans, save some money

Sakon Nakhon

Get ready, waterproof mobile bag, glasses or googles, hand towels, waterproof camera...

NOTE:
Information regarding a songkran parade may have been incorrect.
At this time I have not confirmed whether there will, or will not be a parade.

Tha Rae Easter parade is also unconfirmed

All forms of powder use during songkran for merrymaking is outlawed.  Obviously there will be some "who didn't get the word."
Eye protection for motorcyclists is advised

If the road is wet, slow down, prepare to stop, anticipate getting water thrown at you

NO More than six people in the back of a pickup
