It's the season when bugs want to come in out of the rain

MY OBSERVATION:   Bug spray only stuns the spider temporarily.
If you use bug spray indoors, VENTILATE !

Saw this huge spider at the opposite of the room.  I quickly grabbed for the bug spray and chased it.

The spider seemed to remember how it came into the room, it headed towards the space below the door.
It was actually partially under the door when I sprayed it again and it re-entered the room.

That's when I grabbed my camera

I'm squeamish about such critters, finally mustered enough courage and crushed it.
It's the second large spider since yesterday (one a day)

ASO WORTH OF NOTE:  Many spiders can stay underwater for extended times, flushing a live spider does not necessarily eliminate them

Sakon City Waterfront now a hospital parking lot

You can scroll in either direction and consider yourself lucky if you find a parking space.
Where there is no car parked you will find a vendor parked

Lake water level continues to drop
A dam building project  near the park has been underway
Red flags probably mark shallow water
You would not want to swim in the water due to liver flukes

They seem to like Rock n Roll

Spotted some cows along the road. A bird perched on one of them.
Made a u-turn to get a closer look.
Intriguing was that the cows looked up and came toward me. I had my stereo reasonably loud playing 60's and 70's rock

Home Invasion

No Idea how they got here, might have been planted. The mother is the neighbor's reddish cat. Four offsprings are hiding in my gutters

It's that time of the year again

Kritters of all kinds,  pets, farm animals ... are warming themselves in the warm sun on cement pavement.  Cement absorbs the heat from the sun.
Dogs in the streets is quite common anywhere in Thailand.  These days they are lying on the warm pavement, expecting drivers to 'go around.'
Animals in the streets become a traffic problem mostly in rural areas.  Not always.

Fat boy is spoiled

On hot days I leave the air conditioner on for him when I go out.  One good thing, when he's locked in the house and needs to go, he does it in the bathroom.  No he doesn't flush, but seems to realize that's the room you do it in.
This morning I set out yesterday's chicken leftovers for him.  He don't do leftovers.
Tried feeding him half  can of dogfood.  That sat unclaimed for the rest of the day.
In the afternoon I fried up some pork fat, which also sat unclaimed.
What did get gulped up in a matter of seconds was a 5pm sirloin.  Everything else went into the trash

Not the kind of pet I want to keep

Heavy rains yesterday afternoon

 Drainage worked great

One of my trees fell over during the heavy winds and rains

Replanted it, seems to have survived

Tree fell on a  pineapple, so that is propped up

When I stepped out of the house in the late evening, I almost stepped on a scorpion.  That was the second one this week, in fact the second one in 13 years around my house.  Whacked it with a shovel.  Scorpions are nocturnal creatures.  They hide in dark places during the day and forage for bugs at night.  Not the kind of pet I want to keep

Beware of snakes looking to move in with you

Been a number of recent snake sightings around my yard.  I'm beginning to think that they have some sense of detecting weather changes.
Seems like they look for drier grounds before the rains arrive.
When I walk through the yard during early mornings I make some noise. Snakes tend to attack when they feel they are threatened.
If they know I'm there, without sudden surprises, they tend to slitter off.
There's been a lot in the local media of snakes in the toilets. I keep the toilet seat in an upright position when not in use.  Toilet seats are great hiding places for spiders, snakes, mosquitoes, and other biting creatures

Senile at 14

Fat Boy had been limping for about a week.  Unable to jump up the two steps into the house, these days he whines a bit to let me know he needs to go. I carry him out into the yard, leave him to do his business and then carry him back inside.
I can tell he enjoys the extra attention.  I thought it was a new injury to his leg, but the vet assured me it's not, Fat Boy is getting to be senile.
I mix medicine in his food, including pain medicine, it seems to be helping, he's becoming a bit more active.

Who do ya call ? The snake catchers

Bob Wilson sent me these pictures and comment
Two O'clock this afternoon this Cobra decided to pay us a visit and tried to get into our house. My wife had to phone city hall to get the snake catchers to come and do their thing

As land is being cleared, trees and bushes cut down, the wildlife residing in those areas seek new shelters and sources of food.
