November in Sakon Nakhon
The main event in November of course is Loi Krathong, This year on November 3. There have been some minor changes for this festival over the years. Most obvious are flight restrictions. Sakon Nakhon has an evening departure of a flight at 21:20. Fireworks may be delayed in some areas and restricted in other areas of Thailand
If you get caught up in this tradition and purchase a krathong, make sure there's no plastic or styrofoam holding it together. It's an environmental thing, enforced in some parts of Thailand and not in others. Loi_Krathong on WIKI In November there is usually a main event at the Phu Phan Palace. No dates announced to date this year. Traditionally the royal family donates blankets for the cold season to local villagers. It was a star studded event in 2003. After that, cameras and mobiles were no longer allowed
Last time I visited the Phu Phan Palace, foreigners could visit the palace grounds when accompanied by a Thai native. Also no date yet announced is the Phu Phan Cup. A football tournament among Esarn provincial teams. Also a lot of fanfare, the opening and closing events usually fills the stadium beyond seating capacity. Now that the rainy season is over, there are more local parties. Everything from birthdays to weddings, funeral remembrances, to rock concerts. Oh yes, lets not forget university graduations Nothing announced yet, generally there is some sort of Fair in November US Citizens Outreach in KHON KAEN: Wednesday, November 8, 2017 ![]() | ||||||||||||||||

Cooler temperatures cause me aches and pains
I try to relieve most of the aches with a hot water bottle and stretch exercises.
Also keep in mind " Flu viruses are more stable and remain airborne longer in cold and dry conditions... " It's a season when I tend boost my vitamin C intake. I'm taking some medication for a different reason with side effect like insomnia, itching, stomach pains, the list goes on. The occasional beer or hard stuff does just as well as pain medication. |

Cool season starts early
It seems like the cool season is getting an early start this year. Overnight temperatures may drop to the upper teens next week. Just for a couple of days. Shortly feels like temperatures will be identical to real temperatures (less humidity). Weather patterns are beginning to change, with most of our weather coming from the northeast. Keep in mind short term forecasts tend to be more accurate than long range . Long range forecasts are scientific guesses based on existing models. |

I been working on my Railroad
A few more days on the jig saw to bridge the last track to the main station (green area).
Foam has been great as temporary supports in designing the layout. After the track is laid I'll have to do some serious landscaping. Still contemplating if the center of the table should become a valley or mountainous.

Russian Interference OH PLEEZE give me a break, it's called PSY OPS; propaganda, they all do it
Before the internet, there was radioWorld War II Propaganda Broadcasters Besides radio, leaflets were dropped during the Vietnam War In one incident the US printed leaflets which encouraged Vietnamese to participate in an election (1966). A reporter stumbled upon the leaflets and pointed out that the US was not to interfere with this election in any form. The reporters ultimatum burn em or be part of the evening news. We unloaded truckloads of leaflets, dug a huge pit, had a huge bonfire. These days propaganda is on the net. Media sites need to become more proactive in identifying the source, before accepting advertising money |

The Bangkok Post article advises provinces below the dam to prepare for possible flooding in Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et and Kalasin. HOWEVER, this article points out there are other dams under consideration for release of water: |

Get a hobby or two
Much of the woodwork is done, some painting is next. Still not convinced what railing to use. Considering laminate. Then I'm also thinking of plastic sheeting on which I can print metal railing. Sharp curves can be mastered by leaning the track so the train leans in the opposite direction of the possible fall. |

Paid a little more for the full service cleaning
Recently had my two 14 year old air conditioners serviced. This time it took longer than in the past. Both machines were totally in parts. I was surprised how filthy they were as I had them serviced annually. In the past cleaning took less than two hours, this time it took slightly over three hours |
